Thread: Harvestman

Why?

Very happy with my transactions with @empirix and @alex974

Both modules arrived, shipped promptly with tracking, well packed and in the exact condition described.

Thinking of letting the entire thing go, any thoughts?

Screenshot of a Harvestman modular system, everything is MKII except the Double Andore

Doepfer's website says 0mA at -12V and here it says 40mA at -12V. https://doepfer.de/A196.htm

A breathtaking crescendo/decrescendo. And while the form itself isn't totally new, within this framework, what this modular achieves is unparalleled. Brilliant!

Yep, thanks @JimHowell1970 this was my fear when there is only a tiny pot to work with.

I'm a fan of the Nautilus, for delay and effects:

https://modulargrid.net/e/qu-bit-electronix-nautilus

Between Pam's, Maths, Harlequin's Context and O_C, there are a lot of Disting functions which it might seem like other modules already cover. Nevertheless, there are some unique and interesting algorithms to explore. The shift registers (F5-F8) are a good way to introduce some "controllable" randomness into your patch. I've had fun with the Wavetable VCO (K1), and loading wavetables on the latest firmware is much easier now. Also, the waveform animator (D3) can bring richness and depth to an otherwise thin VCO. Also, I'll second what @Sweelinck said about the H7 Noise function; it's great.

TBH I was in the same boat with my Disting for a while. It was stuck on the delays for a long time before I just decided to pick some functions more or less at random and explore them. Even now though, it is still mostly an effects processor. However, these massive and deep modules are good to understand because they allow you to get an idea and think about how you might approach it. There have been a few times where I was thankful for a good precision adder or yet another quantizer. I guess I just mean that my favourite patches have been weird and not quite standard. Knowing the module helps you chase a sound or even surprise yourself... the joys of modular :-)

Hi all

Im doing Techno, and using modular for two reasons :
1. Sound design - unique leads and a textures
2. Rhythm - random gates and happy accidents

this is my current setup:

Very happy with it but i plan to make it happier by adding additional rack with:
Hexinverter or Verbos complex osc
Verbos Amp and tone
Verbos delay.
Verbos Bark filter

Now, all of these models i can try before at the local vendor. So i will test them before.
However i do have thoughs about the Bark filter which is the exact same size as Piston Honda AND Hertz Donut, which the local vendor don't have.

I know differet things but in the same category of sound design, from what i saw online it seems that the bark filter + delay + A&T is great combination, but Piston/Donut i think will have more sound design options....

If you want to use it as a asound source, be aware that it's a pain to tune & trimmers will make it way more difficult to tune than full size pots!

"some of the best base-level info to remember can be found in Jim's sigfile" @Lugia

Utility modules are the dull polish that makes the shiny modules actually shine!!!

sound sources < sound modifiers < modulation sources < utilities

A Serge ResEQ could be fun. Or maybe even a QPAS. A filter in general would be nice.

Another good idea would be a 2hp dual sample and hold. If you put audio into the main input and then trigger it at audio rate as well, you get a simple but cool voltage controlled downsampled/"bitcrush" effect (in stereo if you use both).

What sound are you after?

The Erica Synths fusion flanger is kinde big for your setup but it sounds lovely!

Yes, go for an 8hp version at least. The bigger the better though.

Good reminder @Sweelinck I often think I'd like more noise and totally forget that Disting does it.

Would I be annoyed by a 6hp Rings versus a Full size?
As in, are the tiny trim pots annoying to set and I'd be better off with the full size Rings?
Of course, 6hp is appealing for not taking up s much rack space!

No expense spared, it's a 16 core machine with 64GB Ram

Seems faster than the old server!

If you see this text it means we are on the new server.
I think we are through the rough stuff. Did not see major problems. Please report if something is not working right. (Except all the old bugs, we moved them too).

One feature among many others, but I really like this one: noise (H-7 Noise). ‘If 'blended' is chosen, the noise color can be smoothly swept from violet to red with the Z knob/CV‘. This allows you to choose exactly your type of noise... Useful for random, texture, percs, etc.

Moving to a new server is sometimes complex. So good luck and thank you!

You can copy/paste from different browsers..
-- modulargrid

This does not work for me
each browser session has its own clipboard

hei there! i love your voices selection and wonder which wiuld be your fav :) i wish you great inspiration and happy days!

Hello everyone
I'm very happy with this setup, but I can't find a good use for my expert-sleeper design beyond using it as an effects processor. Any ideas?
There are two voices sequenced by O_C plus 3 percussion voices filtered by hp. Modulation and envelopes by Harlequin context and pam's.
Thank you for your time and interest.

alright after a while this is what i developed my setup is only deluge, minibrute 2s, o coast, disting mk4, diz, nlc this too shall pass and a triple hwr. so far I'm having a field day with what i got. I feel like I changed it for the better, and organized pretty optimally. so what do ya think, are these good accompaniments?
also the bottom section is potentially an add on for the top of the case, if I go through with it I'll be modifying the rackbrute 6u if I feel it's worth it.

-exmpl.~

Good luck!

On April 10th at around 12.00 CET ModularGrid and a Terabyte of Rack Screenshots will move to a new server. This will take a couple of hours. The website will be in "read mode", which means that rack planning will not work, but the modules should still be searchable. Downtime hopefully will be minimal. See you on the other side!

Can you log in on different browsers at the same time? Though I guess that will stop you copy/pasting.

Hi all,

I have had quite a few issues with combining triggers from multiple clock sources. I had a lot of unwanted behavior for example by using a trigger Pamela's New Workout as a clock source and a trigger from Abstract Data's Octocontroller as a reset signal. The reset almost never "resets" a sequence since the reset trigger is always a few milliseconds before or after the clock trigger.
The cause seems to me is that some clock modules have a little more processing time than others. Makes sense.

Most of the time I try to avoid this problem by using clock and reset input from exactly the same source. However I tried to use a logic module combined with the third channel of Mutable Instruments' Grids (hat channel) and Pamela's New Workout (which directly clocks MI Grids).
Pams sends an offbeat trigger of a 1x pulse, 1% width and 50% phase, classic open hi-hat pattern. I want the hat pattern coming from grids as the closed hi-hat, but also the closed hat needs to choke (i.e. not be triggered) when the open hat is triggered.

So there are a lot of ways to do this, but my first thought would be: both hi-hat offset trigger and Grids' hat channel into logic module, set mode to exclusive or (XOR). This should only put out a trigger when only the open hi-hat is playing and Grids is not, or when only Grids if playing and the open hi-hat not. But since the triggers are not from the same source, there is still a trigger when both inputs are high but with a weird ratcheting effect.
I tried to change the width and phase of the output of Pams, but this even makes it weirder. The same when I use a trigger delay or function generator between Grids' output and the logic module to delay the trigger.

Its very difficult as well to see how far the two triggers are apart, since it's just milliseconds of difference.
How do you guys handle this issues?

Another EDU module from Erica Synths that I’ve built, this is their Hi Hat version 2,
Moderately difficult build for close component placement and soldering near other components, not a first kit.

It sounds really good, a very nice unit.

And as always with these modules, the manual (which you can download for free without buying the kit) is superior, a great practical guide to electronics for music.

The whole series is pretty cool. i have all 3 and and they get wild alone & with each other and even more so with my system.

Bumping necro thread as this stuff is just wild!

The new releases are superb and address a number of questions I had, really looking forward to trying them out.

Anyone else got into these? Any new videos?

Oops! I forgot to post these here!

https://kelaudio.bandcamp.com

All proceeds from the EP, which includes the two singles listed sepreately, go to a local food hub, and together we have raised over £200 so far.

This is an open project, any new remixes welcome - please DM for details, but there are no stems - this is all just live stereo recordings - so this is not an easy mission should you choose to accept it. Only the brave.

All free to listen to, but the WAVS are better, wink wink, and any support would be very much appreciated.

Either way, please enjoy!

Proper dreamy one that.

When dealing with multiple browser windows for rearrangements all windows are doomed to use the same zoom level.
This is a bit tedious when dealing with one huge and one small rack.
As far as i know the browser zoom level is always the same for each (sub)domain.

@modulargrid can you try to add a 2nd subdomain which serves the same site (like www2.modulargrid.net ) to allow different zoom levels?
Or will this break the copy paste functionality?
In case you give it a try dont forget to set canonical meta tags and disable site indexing.
thx!

Oficina de Sonido has started shipping their modules for https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/oficinadesonido/my-first-modular. Has anyone started submitting their modules to Modulargrid? My searches so far have turned up nothing.

Im looking for Winterbloom Neptune

nobody sells it in germany :(
somewhere else in eu?
Didnt find a place to buy it yet

Could you explain a bit more how to use it as logic module?
+ Could you explain the module a bit easier?

It reads a bit complicated to me.

Greetings

Chris

I will! Thanks again for the advice

Now I've got this going I think it's a really nice little sequencer.
Great feature set, with the triggers and step length control.

...but without a fix it wouldn't run, the input on the op amp where the clock comes in had been left floating by the designer and with a genuine TL072 the clock in stops functioning as charge builds up. Added 3M3 resistor to ground (back of board) and it comes to life. (probably with a cheap "fake" op amp the problem does not manifest, lower input impedance)
Voltage range of out put is 0-10V, so needs to be used with an attenuator. (I added voltage divider on output for 0-5V)
There's no protection against reverse connection, no 100n caps near the op amps for stability...but it works.

It doesn't go far into the audio range, and timing on the CV lags the clock, imperceptably but enough to confuse one of my quantisers (some quantisers have a setting for this reason)

Easy build and the only special component is the rotary switch.

thanks, will definitly check it out :)

I see no value in making people feel idiotic. Enjoy the SBH: it's a wonderful instrument.

Argh! Of course it's as easy as turning down the mixer pots. What a noob I am! I guess I'm still not 100% certain of how the signal path of a semi modular system works yet. Thanks for the knowledge, and the decency of not making me feel like an idiot.

Cheers
