Happy New year.
I'm very sure the first thing I made was really simple and would have been a 2hp Pluck going through some Reverb and I was sending it Triggers from a Roland Boutique Sh-01, that made me happy though and look at the rack mess I'm in 2 years or so later :)
-- wishbonebrewery

Wait, does this mean brewing my own beer is the next step in modular? ;) Looks like a really nice mess that you have setup there. Interesting you're triggering from your SH-01...I'm sort of in a similar learning curve with sending and receiving stuff from modular to my Hydrasynth desktop

-- jb61264

I just realised, The TR-09 for Triggers, used to be hooked up via Midi to the SH-01 for Pitches and gates. I don't do that now but thats how I started out.

Hey, thanks....
I think this was more luck than planning, it was a case of a couple of Sine waves hitting a wave folder with plenty of modulation, then going through a filter with more modulation before going into Disting's Stereo Tape delay and and a heavily modulated Clouds, though then there are 2 other parts as well with everything coming from Marbles for control.

before you fry your machine with some malicious program, you can also try to pull the MP4 from youtube (in the videos settings when logged in) and then render only the audio with a program like Premiere Pro or even Blender (free, but a little weird for this task)

I never realised you could do that, I did find a website that lets you paste in the video link to YT and then spits out an Mp3.

I have a https://www.modulargrid.net/e/ladik-e-510-envelope-follower which gives Trigger, Gate and Envelope. I recently used some filtered noise (a crackle type sound) to trigger and run an entire patch. If you happen to have any Piezo contact Mics they can also be used with an envelope follower, at its most simple just tapping on a Mic via the Ladik E-510 can be used to affect the modulation of something else via its envelope. All good fun.

Grab a Mutable Instruments Ears for a bit of Mic-Pre-amp and envelope follower in one.

Well, I for one would be nowhere if it wasn't for the helpful YT videos of Mylar.Melodies, DivKid, Ricky Tinez, Red means Recording, Molten Modular, and that Calm Swedish guy who's name currently eludes me etc etc.
Having someone visually showing you on a YT video or demoing a Module, creative patching or even coming back to a comment you might make on their YT has been invaluable to me.
For me its about gleaning bits of knowledge, from the ordering of modules to learning what sounds I want, patch walk through's, learning what I don't want.

As I've said before though, my main driver in all this is FUN, my own personal entertainment.

Maybe I don't read too deeply into what I'm watching, I would think that would put me in the 'General viewer category'.

When I have the time and space to set up more elegantly I'll be 'Set Dressing' in my own ironic way, I'll be taking the Pi55 out of myself and all of YT, I'll be dressing it up with Post-it notes saying things like 'Succulent plant' 'spare cables' 'small skull' 'piece of bone' 'plastic dinosaur' 'coffee' 'Lego character' whatever ;-)

How would you mount the perforated aluminum to your rails? There's no guarantee that any of the holes will line up or be big enough to pass the threads of a screw through.

I wouldn't use sheers as they will probably curl your aluminum. Sheers (aircraft sheers are best) only make sense for rough cuts in my opinion. I'd use a small hacksaw. You can clean up your cuts using a deburring tool. Just do a search on Amazon for one.

-- Ronin1973

If using perforated aluminium:
You would have to Buy some Round Needle Files to open out or Slot the appropriate perforations.

Snips - Yeah bad idea, as said it will curl the metal, especially so with small parts like this.

Hacksaw - you are going to have to be very careful and accurate or it will look like a dogs dinner, you need a large Flat File rather than a deburring tool, to smooth and straighten the edges. You may also find you will need a Bench Vice to you can appropriately hold the piece of metal so you can square off and make parallel.

Personally, I'd just wait and buy something made by someone else, Eurorack looks nice and I wouldn't spoil it by making something in my garage that would look like a bag of Sh**..... I'm a Mechanical Engineer (for years, before I was a brewer).

If you want to get technical, the Aluminium Blanks from Thonk - You can see the sheer and break-away on the edges, this shows its been stamped out, the initial stampings (Holes & Outside edge) will bend the material, a subsequent stage of the Power-Press will planish (Flatten) the Blank, there will still be sharp edges so I could guess the parts are then tumbled or shot blasted to de-burr. I literally used to make the tools that made things like this.

This is something I keep thinking about too, something in maybe 3 and 4hp, so you can get a bit of air flow with a couple at the bottom and a couple at the top. Electronics do last better when kept cool don't they?
I'm sure I could make my own but I'm not sure it would end up looking very tidy marked out and drilled by hand!

https://www.modulargrid.net/e/soundforce-s-909
but with a Teensy like the:
https://www.modulargrid.net/e/music-thing-modular-radio-music

It looks like its possible from this:

There are a number of sampler player modules but nothing thats really DIY and for Drums / Percussion / 1-shots.

Like having say 4 to 6 Radio Music in a row and all you have to do is hit them with a trigger for them to fire off their set sample.

It currently looks like you have to go for a Rample

or a Squid Salmple

Thanks for that :) I've been pulling this together for a week or so, from the fairly random noise and filter ping effects to working on the beats and getting away from the 4-on-the-floor structure I too easily drop into, then figuring out places in the rack I could 'perform' with it. I think I managed to give it a beginning and an end and the annoying middle-fake-end ;-)

Its an evolution from the controlling a patch with noise, obviously this is clocked for the beats, bass and Synth wash that comes from the Chainsaw heading through the Moon Phase filter before going into the Disting's Stereo Tape Delay and then washed out in Clouds reverb.

Hope you enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed making it :) Recorded live to Youtube in one take.

:)

Noise from the Mutable Instruments Kinks is fed into the Veils VCA and set fairly low, this goes through the ADDAC103 T-Networks which is used as a filter, this can produce a sort of random static or crackle, this then goes into a Ladik E-510 Envelope Follower which picks out Gates, Triggers and a Decay envelope which are all used to control other things. The Only regularly clocked things from Pamela's New Workout are the Repeats are clocked on the Make Noise Mimeophon and then i bring in a bit of clocked rhythm later on.

https://youtube.com/@wishbonebrewery

Talking of texture...
I had some noise patched through a VCA and then being filtered by the T-Networks ADDAC103 a while back, varying the level on the VCA to control volume to a fairly low level you can get static or something akin to Record crackle out of it, I'm assuming other filters will do this as well as the T-Networks but I've not tried. It was a nice background element to play with or just tweak occasionally and bring in and you and sweep / delicately ride the control on the 103.

I thought I better record this before I pull all the plugs out of it, we were a part of the National Science & Media Museum in Bradford UK, we were serving our beers and the Modular Synth was part of it alongside our bar.

Here's the various links that will help make sense of this:

There was much crowd noise and I'm sure my patching sounded much worse on the actual night via a one-speaker PA and i forgot to take my headphones so I had no way to monitor what i was playing.

A fun experience.
