Sold a 4MS Delay to @Wiles he paid right away, no issues, and was very patient when I misspelled my paypal address (fail lol!) Recommended.

In 2017 I bought modules from @laknroll (MI Rings – 2nd hand, personal pick-up), @strat (AM Brain Seed – 2nd hand, shipping) and @PinPinKula (uO_C – new build, shipping). I'd like to thank and can highly recommend all of them: perfect quality of the modules, fast shipping/pick-up and enjoyable conversation.

Hello, I'm a beginner, and would like to build a good start drum rack up, with thick, bold melodic sound (techno, dance, and dinner music) at a reasonable start price, are there are some suggestions where to start.

The sound of a feverish subway ride.

Still not sure if they are idiots or geniuses. There is at least one guy in Jakarta who thinks that modular users also are the target group for illegal abortion. He puts really a lot effort into letting us know.

ModularGrid now has an IP blocker, so I hope the situation will improve over time..

Interesting how they put an actual phone number on these. Some inventively irresponsible people could get a couple minutes of lulz off of (ab)using that in varying ways.

Not that that's a hint, mind you. Oh, no. I would certainly never advocate such a thing. Don't even think it.

(btw, anyone know what's Bahasa Indonesia for "Is your refrigerator running?"...?)

Thread: We Devolve

A few things...

It's a bit redundant to have both the Intellijel Audio I/O and muJack in such a tight setup, since having two sets of stereo outs is perhaps a bit of a space-waster. Plus, given that the muJack is designed for direct-wiring to various Intellijel mixers, you might be able to pick up a couple of extra hp by going with a stereo output that's smaller and scrapping the I/O altogether, since the usual audio-in situation with a guitar/synth deals with a mono signal. As for the input stage as well...do you just want the audio, or do you want an envelope follower as well so that the dynamic envelopes from the inputted instrument can do things like control VCAs, filter cutoffs, etc etc etc? If the latter, the Doepfer A-119 is a pretty straighforward solution, and you also get a gate comparator that goes high when the level exceeds a set threshold.

As for effects...I've always thought that, in a modular environment, a straight-up-analog spring reverb is a 'do'. They have interesting nonlinearities (being a mechanical device) that FX algorithms just never quite nail, plus when you overdrive them with a hard attack, you get this great, dubby, metallic 'splat' that just can't be duplicated just right. Also, you might consider a pedal I/O module like Malekko's SND/RTN, as an example, for an easy way to tweeze a stompbox (or any other line-level thingummy) into the rig and add something that might not be quite so modular-able.

BTW, I'm assuming you're using a back-plane power inlet...? Don't see one on the patchpanel...

Thread: We Devolve

Thanks! Working to sell a few old analogue synths to afford one of these. The advice is good, important and appreciated.

Thread: We Devolve

Bastl Hendrikson also: http://www.bastl-instruments.com/modular/hendrikson/

Erica Synths Black Hole DSP sounds quite good and the overall functionality is good but definitely not great, owing to the limitations of the FV-1 chip. If you're taking MIDI in it sounds like you've got a computer in your setup. Perhaps you could use Valhalla reverb in Ableton or similar...

Thread: We Devolve

Befaco makes a good module for introducing external instruments.

Note to moderators - I uploaded this duplicate pedal only because the other instance has a corrupted image and I was unable to replace it with a proper one. Thanks!

Hi All,
Thanks for making this great site.
I just got a Happy Ending kit for Christmas (including the uZeus supply). Here is a quick example of a single VCO starter synth that I'm spec'ing out.
Anyone that knows of any power issues with any of these modules, please comment.

Thanks + Happy New Year

Sometimes form is equally important as function.

Thanks, we have to fight a lot with spam recently. Problem is, it's not a bot but real people from Indonesia, so they are hard to filter.

Hi,

Whats the best option if you want to install a module upside down to get the jacks in your preferred position? Are there panels available with the markings flipped or is it a DIY job to flip the panel and mark it up manually or to create a stick on overlay.

Cheers, Michael.

I noticed this spam post in the modules section:

PinpinKur(ass)

See below the PayPal case logs and my messages to you TO WHICH YOU NEVER FUCKING REPLIED!
You employed your KGB skills to watch my activity, in proper Balkan style you DO guess, imagine, guess and then imply that if I have a module with rack rash IT MUST be from my own rack... it must have taken you a week to write all that shit to support your case. You had this Yugoslav attitude (similar to your pathetic Mladic, Milosevic) who would rather die than accept the truth- that you WERE wrong! Pathetic really! But hey, 200€ is a load of cash for you! I sympathise with you...really! Enjoy a drink on me!

All these hundreds of Eurorack users who know me also know that I have strugggled to build my own rack, using multi layered ply and some curtain rails, which was finished in Dec the 10th this month (chats and pictures are available if one cares). So, nobody tries to scam you, your English needs adjusting a bit. I was not trying to SELL you anything, I wanted to return to you a defective, unused unit, you have sold me. You WOULD have gotten the same unit back, so if it was that easy to fix why did you have to go to such lengths instead of replying on PayPal and offering to fix it! Look below, you never replied to me in 5 days, then when I escalated to a claim via PayPal fuck knows what you have said to them, a load of bollocks by the look of it!

14/12/2017 21:38 GMT - PayPal: Buyer escalated this dispute to a claim.
14/12/2017 21:38 GMT - Buyer: I have purchased a DIY Clouds- an Eurorack module built by the seller that does not function as it should. To be more precise the instrument has got two audio inputs that should both take an audio signal and process it further. I have tried the module thoroughly and the Right Input does not work, meaning it does not take the signal in. Also, the data pot on the left hand side is very very wobbly and scratchy, as in noisy when turning. I have been told the unit is new, tested and works correctly but I am afraid it is not the case.I cannot fix the unit myself since it would entail undoing some 7 potentiometers, 2 push buttons and approx. 10 miniature jack sockets in order to remove the front panel. Then I would need to desolder the wobbly pot (which is impossible without damaging the circuit board, due to the fact that it has been soldered to the PCB and has got thick metal legs that have a lot of solder). Further on zi would also need to desolder the Right in jack and replace it, but with the same risks and consequences as with the pot).I would like a full refund to buy this unit from a proper distributor as it looks like your DIY instruments are not made properly.
14/12/2017 21:29 GMT - Buyer: Since you don't even bother to reply, and treat me with indifference, I guess the best thing to do is for me to escalate this to Paypal. No problem.
11/12/2017 12:38 GMT - Buyer: As you contacted me via Modular Grid and asked me to explain to you what this is about, I am replying to you here as well."Hi,After months of getting rails, wood panels, etc. I have finally manage to put up a case together, fitted all my modules in and started patching. However, when I tried to patch Rings or Ogre FM, or DynSync 303VCO into Clouds, the Right input socket of the Clouds you sold me did not get any signal through. As I pulled the jack out I could hear a short noise and tried to plug it in again, no signal going through. The socket must be incorrectly wired/soldered or it is defective. Now, in order to change a socket like that one would need to undo all the pots, sockets, etc. and I am not qualified to do that, plus it looks like the other sockets may be like that or become so after very few plug ins and out, which tells me that they are of very very bad quality. But, what is annoying is that you were supposed to check the Clouds module properly before sending it to me like it is and avoid this. Also, the input gain pot is really wobbly, like us broken AND is very noisy, it makes a scratchy noise when turning it. This is not right, you either used cheap Chinese components from Tayda OR sold me a defective unit! I want my money back, this is annoying! Now, I will need my money back so I can order one built by Mutable Instruments or buy a second hand one, but original since I do not trust DIYers anymore. You must understand that this is not right nor fair for a buyer to put up with, so no hard feelings but the Clouds module is not as described, since it is not working as you implied when you asked for the money for it! Cheers,Dan"

Hi Jeff,

Yes, you have to be careful 0f specs listed for the modules you have and what info is pulled up through the ModularGrid entries. Some of the modules have been entered by individuals and shops and there is always that demon called "typo." I generally use the figures as a guideline; but, always double check the module manufacturer's specs to make sure. These values are also steady state values and do not reflect startup loading on the power supplies. They even make adapter modules that delay the start up of modules in order to minimize the extreme loading condions on rack power up.

Power Supplies themselves along with Powered Racks are animals unto themselves and as you pointed out, many are not listed due to variety, the nature of the bus structures, and other factors. I could be wrong; but, I view ModularGrid as a planning and layout tool foremost, with the added features of calculating module loads on the busses as a secondary feature. Like most things, MG is still a growing product/tool backed by a large user community. Things progress slowly and matters are not helped much by the comings and goings of module manufacturers and limited module production runs.

So, when all else fails, I always keep a spreadsheet of everything to make sure I stay under my self-imposed 80% loading rule per rack row. I prefer to use the non-powered racks and supply my own P/S modules and PSUs ... one per rack row using the TipTop Audio uZEUS modules. This gives me an advantage of only turning power on for the rows of modules I might be using as opposed to the whole thing sitting in standby mode doing nothing. The disadvantage would be that my setup is not very portable which does not appeal to most musicians. There again though, this is one of my home hobbies and not a profession that tromps around from one venue to another.

In the end, I use MG more for module and rack layouts more than anything else and the reports as a quick calc on P/S requirements. Then my spreadsheet kicks in ... both the one tracking rack electrical loadings, and the other tracking expenditures, LOL.

SCAM ALERT FOR ALL THE SELLERS ! This guy ( DanMan ( real name Dan Leuca residing in UK, originally from Romania ) wanted to pull a classic paypal scam on me, opening a "item not as described" claim on Paypal just shy of 6 months after receiving his module.

He said he couldnt have tested his module up until now since he didnt have a case for it but at this moment and for some time now he has been selling 8 of his modules up here to the general public meaning he has had a case to run any kind of module for quite some time. Obviously when i presented all of this to the paypal they threw out his claim in matter of hours - didnt even investigate, thats how SCAMMY it was. Here is my response to his claims if anyone wants to break his teeth on it; ( its detailed and forthcoming) https://www.scribd.com/document/367748975/Seller-Response-to-Case-ID-PP-006-413-682-835

Next to that he wanted to buy another module from me 3 months after he bought the one he is complaining about - (proof also present in the linked doc). What does all of this tell you, for real?

So even tho i didnt know what he did with his module in this time and how did he threat it to make it the way it supposedly functions and even tho he OBVIOUSLY tried to scam me i offered him a free of charge repair and what he did is he opened this thread and tried to fuck with me. Obviously you didnt realize yet Dan but you picked a wrong man to fuck with.

I d encourage everyone who has any doubt that i provide a fair and quality service to check other comments on my work up here (link; https://www.modulargrid.net/e/forum/posts/index/563 )
(for example; 61050PM Posted: Wednesday December 27, 22:27 / @pinpinkula is the man, would totally buy from him again despite living on the other side of the globe. :) ) This is just a sample of people who have bought from me. Even tho i dont explicitly say i offer warranty in most of my offers i have helped free of charge anyone to this date if their module got screwed up one way or another (less then a percentage of my sales, to be clear) .

But what i wont stand for is some make believe scamming ass winding up my nerves trying to foil me and then come and taint me and then expect me to be nice to him. Im sorry Dan, but you burned that bridge. What you made me realize is just how much more thankful i have to be that i have up until now dealt, and hopefully will do so in the future, with honest and stand up people which seem to constitute vast majority of users participating here. I didnt realize i was ungrateful for that up until now so there is something good coming from your scamming ass even so. A feather in your cap no doubt.

Regarding technicals, the guy doesnt know what he is taking about, he is taking about the encoder for the clouds gain pot - wtf? He claims he "will have to find what pot it is" all tho i linked to him exactly the pot used in that place in my response (linked above) and explained to him that that pot is a board mounted pot and that those are wobbly as opposed to the panel mounted ones - panel mounted simply have a thread on their shaft with which they tighten up to the panel with a nut, board mounted dont. This confusion of notions which he presents here corresponds to his scammy intentions no doubt.

Regards,

Pinpinkula

Hi people.

Ive recently delved into modular and im new to it all. i could do with some patch ideas and some advice whether i could do with more modules to get some gritty melodic techno sounds out of it. any advice would be great. For my full set up check out my rack on my profile. also i havnt got a make noise maths yet but its in the post... so i havnt added it to my setup yet.

Thanks!

I purchased a Clouds DIY from a seller on Modular Grid in July but I had no power supply and case setup so I did not patch anything into it until at the beginning of December, after setting up my case, and this is when I found out that the right input (R) socket is not working and the left side pot is scratchy (seller told me this is also quite wobbly, because it is a different pot, an encoder??? but he assured me is working OK- this is the top left side pot). I have tried to get my money back via PayPal but to no avail. I have also contacted my bank, which can do a payback claim to PayPal but since it was over 120 days that was not possible either!
I need to find out what pot it is and buy another one but dismantling the module and desoldering these parts is a bit tricky... :((((

The seller's name on Modulargrid is Pinpinkula (Jure Rotar- from somewhere in the former Yugoslavia). Be careful!

I'm a brand new Eurorack user as well... and.. one thing about this ModularGrid format that puzzles me the interface does not allow a planner to add or define a power supply for a rack? I know what my power supply specifications are (an Intellijel TPS30 MAX Triple Power Supply – 30W 3U / 6U busboard) .. and I spent more time than I'd like to admit trying to figure out how to add the power supply to my planned rack, (then realized finally that doing so makes no difference!) It's confusing because the power ratings listed under the rack image do not reflect what you might have ! Is there something I'm missing? In my case my "module" per se... because there is no panel - (its built into the case) but I would think the addition of defining basic Power Supply parameters would not only help inform a user about falling within PS limits but also ensure one is not limited by the number of Power Ports on the busboard or harness available.

Also, It seems like these days there a a TON of commercially available rack cases. Am I wrong? Why are there only 4 or 5 cases available?

Jeff

Hi guys!
I am interested in long and hypnotic sounds. Drones of trance music.
This is the setup I would like to achieve in 2018.
Does anyone have any further suggestions please?

Thank you so much.

Have a good time.
Lou

Hi guys!
I am very interested in generative music.
I like the asymmetric rhythms and I like to work both on the random and with lists of variables.
I am a neophyte in the world of eurorack systems.
In the past I have been very dedicated to C-Sound and Max / MSP.
Now I would like to buy a modular.
What do you think about my choice?
Someone can give me some indication and some suggestions for something I have not foreseen please?
I was thinking of dividing the modules into two travel racks.
So the system is more mobile, since they are always moving.

Thank you so much.

Have a good time.
Lou

@pinpinkula is the man, would totally buy from him again despite living on the other side of the globe. :)

got a few modules from @cultureicon . great seller !

perfect transaction... ;-)
and lovely community

Hello all. I'm just getting into modular and am looking for some feedback on which modules other users would recommend me getting next. I enjoy making ambient styled music with some sequences, drones and textures; classic type stuff. My current modules include a Pittsburgh Modular SV-1, a Roland 500 Series system, a Roland Torcido, a Synthesis Technology E340 Cloud Generator and a WMD Multi-Mode Filter. I'm currently using an Alturia Beatstep Pro for sequencing but also have a Squarp Pyramid which I'm working on learning. My beats come from a DSI Tempest. I'm looking at getting a Pittsburgh Modular Structure EP-360 9U case so I can "grow into it."

I'm drawn towards Maths, Erbe-Verb, Ornament & Crime, MI Clouds and Elements and 4ms stuff. Any suggestions or insights are greatly appreciated!

ModularGrid Rack

Hi all!
I'm trying to better understand the essentials I'd need for a single row rack. I might split this into two rows depending on a few things. I'm also trying to better understand how I should structure my signal chain.

Open to suggestions on better modules, consolidation, and arrangement.
Thanks in advance!

New to Modular and want to learn everything!

Hi im trying to start a Shapeshifter focused rack, its the second try and i think im in love with the metropolis even tho its in the far future to afford it.
so what else would i need? i fell in love with the shapeshifter since watching the demo video from mylarmelodies and yea... since then i can't get it out of my head

My new portable setup

I see you have three sequencers - rather than rigidly distributing the same clock all over the place, why not add some variety into the mix. You could send 1 clock into MI Branches and that would send 4 different, but related, clocks out to the sequencers, leaving one spare for something else. You could do something similar with a sequential switch, that would delay the clock to four different parts in sequence.

First setup. Waiting for my case, and I'll be up and running. Any comments or advice would be appreciated. Will be getting Circadian rhythms soon. Also have Make Noise 0-coast. Thanks!

Hi,

I bought an Enclave 12U case years ago and my system has been slowly filling out the case. This is where it's at now. While learning about synthesis through the slow process of building this system has been incredibly inspiring (but intimidatingly expensive) I feel that I have now amassed a collection of modules as opposed to building a complete instrument. Any thoughts on where to go from here? My aim is to have a flexible stage friendly performance instrument that can cover a set of textural, melodic, and rhythmic elements. Thank you for the insights.

The maker of all these modules needs to share the correct hp with us.
They look like 7 hp to me (an 14 for the bigger).

Hello friends,

This is all new to me but I’m thinking of putting together a small 84hp build to complement a mother-32. I’m hoping that it’ll be an inspiration machine as well as a fun and expressive instrument to play. I initially wanted to build something around a lifeforms SV-1 but I think it'll be more fun mixing and matching my own VCOs and such.

Love to hear any thoughts or feedback. Do the modules make sense? Am I approaching this with the right idea? Thank you very much in advance.

black panel sounds ace, any previous designs you´ve made? hopefully will test this gem around christmas, sorry for the missing grfx (it's 31hp now instead of 29, and i only had the 29hp file), updates asap

Hey all, finally dipping into the world of modular synths after 15 years of music!

I am trying to find the best modules to put in a rack with a Mother 32... how does this look? Is is 114 HP. I am trying to build a machine that can give me some nice random ambient but also versatile enough for space-y sequence patterns. I don't really know what modules compliment the Mother 32 well but from what I've been watching / reading online I think what I chose so far looks sufficient.

This looks sweet! Can't wait to get one and make a black panel for it!!!

Hi everyone,
My partner and I are going all in on music production, primarily techno. I plan to surprise her with a modular rack to expand our palette. I’ve decided on an Intellijel 7u 104hp case. Our aesthetic leans toward dark / heavy / hypnotic, influenced by acts like Luis Flores or SNTS.

Intended applications are:
Designing patches for kicks, basslines, leads, chopped vocals and FX to record into a DAW (Likely in tandem with Ableton Push)
Syncing with Traktor for live improvisation during DJ sets (important to avoid any off-case devices to keep it as portable as possible)
Jamming at home sans laptop
Possible future expansion with a second 7u 104hp case with the aim of playing full songs live

Notes on the setup here:
Already own the Octasource Black, and an Arturia Keystep Black
The two VCOs selected (TwinWave and z3000) to maximize diversity of voices, however any suggestions about a more versatile combination of VCOs is welcome
Mixer was chosen for panning capability, stereo channel for effects, and headphone unit (freeing up space on 1u). If another mixer can serve this purpose better, I would make room on the top for for a headphone jack
Pressure Points and Rene were selected for the expressiveness and automation potential; but because of the space they occupy, I am open to suggestions for anything that matches or exceeds these functions while taking less space
I sacrificed on having a quantizer, and a fancier filter; if any space is freed up, I might try to add those

If anyone notices potential technical issues, major overlaps in function that could free up some space, major pieces that seem missing, or just has any personal suggestions, any input is appreciated.

Regards

hi, I currently own the first 2 rows, but was planning to get the other 2 rows during some time, have any advice on what could I add, take away or swap?
thanks!

Given that you do not know what the Power Supply rail maximum loads would be, if I were in your shoes, i wout rebuild in a new skiff and buyba new Power Supply module so you are aware of the limits. You are much better off knowing your limits than using a module as a fuse.

I still have not been able to fing that info yet. It is obvious since the holes were predrilled tha Analogue Solutions from 2003 to 2007 was intent on the plastic housing to be used only with their modules. In fact they even state in the manual as a rather inaffective warning that they are not responsible for issues caused by modules from other manufacturers. Nice ... Not!

There are some fairly inexpensive skiff solutions out now including TipTop Audio's new skiff line.

I will keep digging though.

ModularGrid Rack

so thats the rack just with what i have

the case is plastic and has predrilled holes so if you want to put anything except what they are built for into it you have to drill your own holes...the plan is to take the power supply out and build my own rack..

thanks again for looking into this for me

Citron,

I have been tryigg to dig up info on the Analogue Solutions AS0084 case and so far, have only found the Concussor User Manual which unfortunately, only gives you the AC power supply requirements (12-15 vac at 500 ma) and does not delineate the actual internal +12 vdc, -12 vdc, +5 vdc supply current output which is really what you need to make sure you stay under the supply maximums. It is not a good idea or statement to say, "The case will generally supply a full set of modules unless there are too many power hungry modules," because you have no idea what your power supply will deliver and therefore cannot ensure you do not exceed the limits of the supply.

So, we need to find out what that limit actually is. Without this, you cannot really know what your limits are on you rack supply either thru Modular Grid or manually thru a spreadsheet or other means.

Go ahead and try your hand on building a virtual rack like yours on MG with the modules you have and go from there while I try to find out the power supply delivery. No wonder Analogue Solutions no longer makes these.
