ModularGrid Rack

What single Module would add the most to my rack?

Part of me is thinking; another oscillator, a Pamela's new Workout (with expander), a Mutable Marbles.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers

If you mean the Hats then its from the Roland TR-09.

I put the Patch notes on the YT page:
The new module in the rack is the #2hpRND #Eurorack #ModularSynth, at the moment I don't understand it enough (I feel I need a scope to see whats going on) but anyhow... The RND gates are clocking the Euclid which in turn is clocking the RND. Two sound sources STO which is getting some smooth output action from the RND which then goes ono being messed with in Monsoon Clouds and a fair bit of Ochd LFO hitting the Clouds. #ADDAC105 Quant output from the RND to the CV, then its getting Clock hits and LFO. ADDAC013 on the little plinky bits that are panned left and right (DNiPRO DOT controlling), Bass beat is also the 103 with a little light hats from the Roland TR-09.

Thanks again...

I designed the case, its internal dimensions and layout, and my neighbour made it from MDF. I plan to stain it and maybe varnish, I bought some Red stain thinking it might look cool and tested it on a bit of scrap MDF.... looks really crap! So Not red! Doh! :)
There is room to stack more case rows on top and room at the front for a horizontal skiff.

Really enjoying this patch, in no small part this is the product of the divided gates coming from the #PittsburghModular #MicroSequence, gates hitting the #ALM #PipSlope (Tweaking the PipSlope to let more of less thru) which is opening up #MutableInstruments #Veils to let through the #MakenoiseSTO and the #2hpARP pattern. The twinkly blippy beats come from the #AddacSystems #Tnetworks103 going through the #2HpVerb. Main beat is also the T-networks with hats percussion coming from the Roland TR-09. The PipSlope also tweaks the #HappyNerding #HNVCF. There is also some of the STO routed through the ADDAC105 and mixed with its output before heading to the #Erica #PicoDSP

And as usual, its time to pull all the plugs and delete the .wav files :)

How about in 'My Modular' there could be a Move Row Up / Move Row Down buttons? So when you add a new row you can easily move rows without having to move each individual module.

Cheers guys :)

@Garfield - Having got the ADDAC 105 (4 voice cluster) its the same form-factor as the 104, if I chose again i would maybe go with the 104 instead of the 103 as the knobs and switches are soooooooo close to each other. Though, that said once I've picked and set my percussion sounds on the 103 I can pretty much leave it alone.

The wave drone sound comes from the Ochd modulating the Cut-off on the 105 (then going through Clouds reverb) weird little beast, actually thought it was faulty, though I seem to be assured otherwise by ADDAC. Something to do wih how the settings of one knob effect the others and to the point where there will be no sound, but you can get some nice results though just a lot of variables.... whether hitting it with Gates, Triggers or LFOs all change the character of the sound that comes out with the varying settings of Decay.

The bed sound comes from the #ADDAC105 4 Voice Cluster going through some Monsoon Clouds reverb.
The lead sound is the #Makenoise #STO through the #HappyNerding #HNVCF with drive, sequenced from the #PittsburghModular #MicroSequence.
Percussion is from the ADDAC103, Bass drum split off to a Mono channel and the other three blippy parts are panned around using the #Omsonic UPE (Universal Panning Expander), the T-Networks is controlled by the #DNiPro #DOT which in-turn is modulated by the #Instruo / #Divkid #Ochd.
There is a little hint of the #2hp Bell in there and some Hats coming from the #Roland TR-09.

Its taken me a while to start using the Freeze button on #Clouds, this is the #2hp #Pluck heading into #MonsoonClouds with plenty of modulation in Clouds coming from the #Divkid / #Instruo #ochd, i split a bit of the audio off and filtered it through the external in on the #ADDAC105 #4VoiceCluster's HP Filter and sent it through the pingpong Delay on the #Erica #PicoDSP, then the #NoiseEngineering #BinSeq is running long gates turning on and off the Freeze Button, there's also a little modulation coming from the Noise Engineering #ClepDiaz which mainly tweaks the texture slider on Monsoon. There is a lot of space in this piece, I didn't see a reason to complicate it.

Cheers for listening.

The drippy filter is a clock/gate pulse hitting the V/oct (Nothing patched to the filter input) and the + and - envelopes of an ADSR tweaking the FREQ and RES. Thru a bit of Delay and / or Clouds and it sounds pretty nice.

Probably shouldn't have done the drop-out parts, needs a Transposition module.
I had fun playing with it.

Choices for which module-direction to head next, probably some Stereo Panning of parts.
I'd quite like some Full/Half-wave Rectification thats outside of the Disting, I still dislike the Disting menu diving but its a module that lets me know which way I need to go next after trying a mode out.
Pamela's New Workout + the extra gate outputs expander would be nice, I realise i need to start including some Resets across the modules in my rack to keep things tight.

The latest patch + Roland TR-09

I've been Tap-clocking the Pittsburgh Microsequence to use as my main clock source, this isn't ideal and I'd like to get something like Pam's Workout to have as a main clock. In the meantime I thought I should try using the TR-09 as main clock then into the Divider and divide down to slow-clock the MicroSequence for some longer gate times.
Kinda just fooling with the TR-09 played in live varying the patterns on the fly.

Cheers for listening.

@troux My thinking is now.... 'Everything is too small or My fingers are too fat' I am trying to keep things compact. Though seeing as I'm on my 3rd Row of 84hp and my Wishlist of modules is about another 3 rows... I'm not sure how compact it will eventually be! Ha!

Here's the latest ambient track/loop/thing now with added ADDAC103, this is how I want to use it for little clicky blippy stuff, though you do get a nice Kick drum out of it too to annoy the wife with ;-) I need to restrain Ochd, so some bits are going through the AT-AT-AT to tame them down a bit, I probably need to look at getting a Passive Half/Full wave rectifier too.

Cheers

A Note to GarfieldModular and Defragmenteur.

I've gone for the Big Knobs and ordered a 103! I've already got a lot of small knobbed modules..... who knows though, if I enjoy the 103 enough, maybe a 104 later.
I've just started playing with the DNIPRO DOT and it looks like it's going to be the perfect companion.

Like when I joined here and started my Eurorack Journey, everyone is going to tell you to have a Goal in mind before you start.
It will stop you spending a load of money on something you find you don't use or didn't need
Figure out what you want your Rack to do.... for me the initial goal was to fill in the gaps around the other gear I had so that the combo of other gear + Eurorack didn't have any crossover.
My goals have slewed a bit and I now want to bring in some of the capability of the external gear into the rack but not fully.

I don't think I followed the advice given here, but that's not to say that it wasn't helpful ;-)

Just had a chance to listen to and read through this post. Some amazing stuff you are doing which is a great inspiration for someone like myself who is just taking those first shakey steps into modular synthesis, so thank you for this!

Random question but is this the Wishbone Brewery where Oli, who used to work at Cap and Collar, works?

Thank you for sharing. It's easier to understand the way you work with the instrument you build.
I have listened to your track several times with the patch in mind. Very interesting and beautiful piece!

A few questions:
- Are you fully satisfied with the 2hp TM, and why not have chosen the Music Thing Modular? (I personally use Marbles...)
- 2hp Euclid, same question :) Completely satisfied? Did you hesitate with another module like Euclidean Circles?

Thanks in advance for your answers.
With kind regards.
-- Sweelinck

Thanks :)

I'm happy with the 2hp TM, I didn't choose the Music Thing because I am trying to keep a compact setup (This has its pros and cons). I quite fancy a Marbles sometime.
2hp Euclid, same reasoning and the price is a lot cheaper than Euclidean Circles. I've got a DNI pro DOT on order and that has 3 channels of Euclidean sequences.

You could make the most of modulation sources with a DPW Design AV-1, your two inputs can be attenuverted, there is also a SUM output and a A>B output so lots of options for screwing around with your CV signals to create more. You can even throw a couple of gate sources at it and get a new sequence based on the two input.
That HN 3xMIA does look tempting though ;-)

MicroSequence runs the clock
Clock divided
2hp Euclid then opens and closes the envelope controlling the Freq and Res on a VCF
2hp Turing machine and Tune control all the Pitches
STO is split off to: 2hp Verb / Erica Pico DSP / Monsoon Clouds
There is also a little 2hp Bell in there which goes through the Stereo Tape Delay on the Disting MK4
Mostly mixed with the Befaco STMIX

Current Rack below (Ignore the DNI Pro DOT as its somewhere between Ukraine and UK on its way in the post)

The Sliders module is the Pittsburgh Modular MicroSequence, its mainly just used as my clock source, it has a cycle that has a probability of a 'rest' so I can start off with a slightly wonky clock. I've not really been using it as the Pitch/gate sequencer it is intended to be though i can see me using it differently as my system slowly lets me experiment with more styles. I do use the Pitch CV to modulate other modules.
