Maybe the problem is that the MIDI output of the SQ-64 is not optimized for the SD08 sound engine. Some synthesizers and drum machines may have unique MIDI implementations that require certain MIDI messages or settings to trigger certain sounds or parameters. In this case, it may be helpful to check the SD08 MIDI Implementation Diagram to see if there are any specific MIDI messages or settings that need to be used when starting up with the SQ-64. I found a useful link https://modwiggler.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=239867&start=625 https://www.spydetectfree.com/ with a working and useful resource that might help you find a solution.

Any chance of you hitting us in the future with a Vince Clarke-era Depeche Mode jam??? :)

@Skipperhead1991 you have not verified your email so I cannot PM you re: your for sale rack

I'm feeling so excited because I just posted the first video of my new YouTube channel about modular synthesizers and electronic music. Let's inspire each other to create music and add a little bit of beauty to this world! If you like what you see could you like and subscribe? It's my wish to create this wonderful little community on YouTube that loves electronic music! See you there!

How come someone you’ve never dealt with other than in a purchase request, leave negative feedback? I’ve only ever bought anything, never sold. I’ve always paid, and I’ve always received my goods, what more is expected of someone? But now I wish to sell an expensive module I have a fake negative feedback, which can influence peoples trust. Can someone explain how this can happen?
Secondly why do so many messages disappear?

Hello! I've been lurking in the modular space and playing on some semi-modular gear but I'm planning to take my first jump into a fully modular set-up. I'd love some feedback on what you all think might be missing.

I'm looking to build a self contained somewhat ambient / slow burn rack that's mobile and doesn't need any extra kit to play (hence the Bloom and the headphone out). The Nautilus is one of the motivations for moving towards modular in the first place. The Knobula Poly Cinematic seems like an amazing poly voice with extras so it seemed like a great small rack module. Sloths seems really fun but I'm very open to trying to find more/different modulation sources.

The current plan:
https://cdn.modulargrid.net/img/racks/modulargrid_2185361.jpg

I've got extremely limited space so I'm very much intending to keep the case small for the foreseeable future. Yes I can upgrade my space some day!

I can tell you that in order to play samples accurately with v/oct, you need to determine the sample's pitch, and then set the appropriate pitch value in your synthesizer or sampler.

I kinda feel like I would swap the Turing Machine or Pachinko for Pamela's New/Pro Workout and VCAs, but only you know how you will use it.
How do you like that Hermippe VCF? That one seems pretty cool.

This is something I've been thinking of building with my modules. I'm not trying to add more, in fact I want to get rid of a bunch, but I thought if I pared down to the basics. I would add more vca's if I had them.

Can anyone see if I'm missing anything crucial, or perhaps both the marbles/pachinko and turing machine are a waste of space?

is all good Modular01 i was just playing arround... Nobodys a Idiot...! [edit: Hahaa i got it too late! You bought the Module :) Very Lucky You!

Thank you for making things i like or things i need

Today I installed the first modules and made my first patch. Envelope triggering the springreverb. Springreverb into the filter. Lowpass into the mixer. Highpass into the black hole and black hole into the mixer. Sounds realy haunting just what I was looking for. Stroking the spring with my fingers, feedback, I am verry happy! while i was patching away I realized that another mixer with a gain/overdrive (as a sub) would be verry handy.

good luck for finding a unit somewhere else!

Well, I don't why I'm involved to this Ziqal Wavetable Oscillator issue, I never had, never bought, never nothing about it.

Try contacting Ziqal, I believe they sell direct too.

To update my post above, great news on two fronts: the manual is now out, and the FW received a decent update. I still highly rate this module and can warmly recommend it to anyone looking for a WT module.

Edit: I got mine from Signal Sounds, website says they're in stock right now too

upper channel that has 12dB slope and touch of resonance is hard to emulate. i love it for snappy and bright percussion, or some techno-ey sequencer line. but don't use it for classic west coast lpg action. also, you need an amp module (gozinta in my case) to get the best of it. once you can condition the level you are hitting the lpg with, a whole different world opens.

bottom LxD channel is darker, and gentler. kinda similar to my Optomix rev1. except vactrol in mine is little too abrupt, so for classic 292 ring i prefer the Optomix. it is perfect.

another contender i would recommend is Tokyo Gate. it sounds little less clicky and perhaps rounder than Make Noise offerings. it has limited control over resonance - tho one should be aware that introducing it moves it from LPG to Resonant VCF kind of response, i.e. it shortens the ringing.

I would recommend you look at the patch examples in the Pressure Points manual. This is a very basic building block synth patch that they call "Tactile Keyboard," I believe.
Have fun and good luck.

Earlier today I made a purchase from @Vermeil for a Voltage Block that he had going.

I’m currently looking at purchasing a few more modules and as this one is pretty scarce and on my list I jumped at the chance.. I agreed to pay his asking price and shipping charges (even shook on it virtually 🤝) but chose not to go ahead with his request to use a friends and family PayPal payment.

With that in mind I paid the fee so as not to have any back and forth and possibly loose out on the module. At this point I get a reply telling my I have not paid the fee and that I need to pay more money.. my reply was the fee is 2.9% right?

I then receive an email saying he can sell locally and doesn’t want to risk sending the module. A refund seems to be in the works but it hasn’t yet hit my account. It’s a substantial amount from my new module budget, I just hope it doesn’t inhibit a future purchase.

It’s a shame my first purchase on Modular Grid turned out to be a bit of a negative experience but I won’t let this taste linger as I’m pretty sure there are plenty of good folk selling desirable gear on here..

Here’s to them and anyone else searching for their dream set up 🍻

That said if anyone has a Voltage Block (v1.5/6) for sale I’m definitely interested and have part of my budget waiting.

Happy Sunday folks!!

Edit: just crossed my mind that this dude also now has a considerable amount of my personal details 🤦‍♂️ (PayPal user Maxime Rosa)

Hi,
I always ask that they give me the total price: Module+postage+Paypal fees. Normally a 4% fee is requested.

-- ferranadsr

Hey @ferranadsr,

Thanks for your reply.

Appreciate the insight.. I’ll defo go about a purchase the way you do going forward.

I did use a PayPal fees calculator to obtain the the amount I paid and the seller was asking for more than 4% after I had made my payment.

To add: I would have had no problem paying what was asked.. just ask or fully disclose and be clear is all. And I requested a tracked postal service so as to limit any uncertainty for the seller.

Just so I understand where does the 4% figure come from?

Yes, if you run the E352 output to a VCA. Trigger an envelope with your Pressure Points and have the envelope open your VCA.
-- farkas

Farkas, just tried it but think i might have done something wrong, couldnt get it working, could you try and walk me through how precisely to patch this up?

-- Broken-Form

can you tell us exactly how you are patching this - it'll probably be easier to 'debug' what you are doing...

but:
audio out of e352-> audio in of vca
gate out of pressure points->gate in of envelope generator
envelope generator out->cv in of vca
out of vca->whatever you are using to monitor (mixer) -> headphones/speakers etc

thanks will try to follow, the only envelope generator i have is Zadar, and havent really used it yet.also have the brain expander to pressure points

this might be a dumb question, but

today i messed around with the modular, right now my E352 plays by itself no matter what, would it be possible to trigger it with my pressure points?so i choose when it will play?

Queen of Pentacles is fantastic all in one drum voice on eurorack. Has a good filter, on board FX and 8 drum voices a combo of analog and samples.

Endorphin.es has been fantastic and the owner/founder has helped me with firmware issues on Shuttle Control.
I had great experience with Jim at Vector sequencer and Intellijel support has been great as well. I like Noise Engineering both Markus and Kris have helped me with module issues.

I see that you have cross-posted this on multiple forums. Looks like you are getting reasonable guidance on MW.
Good luck and have fun.

When I started out, I did the classic newbie thing of just buying whatever sounded interesting without paying too much attention to how it would actually interact. Now that I've finally got myself a good case, I'm planning out expanding into what always interested me, generative patches.

Please experts, review my proposed upgrades and eviscerate my poor decision making. Intended budget is ~$1000. Details below.

All those modules sectioned off by themselves in the top right are the ones I plan to purchase.
Current Rack: ModularGrid Rack

Details:

  • Doepfer A-140-2 - $130 (already purchased)

    • Not really related to the generative goal, just replacing my busted AI003, but it counts towards the budget.
  • Acid Rain Chainsaw - $250

    • Looking to add another voice, and this one specifically is a low HP way to take advantage of the Harmonaig or pitches going into a shift register.
  • Eric Synths Sequential Switch V2 - $150

    • Research told me to get something to anchor a sequence but allow randomness to still pass through, and this seemed like a popular option. I like the idea of "anchoring" with the TM, but slowly unlocking and re-locking over time.
  • Mutable Instruments Branches (or clone) - $120

    • Bernoulli gate, more randomness, not sure if it needs explanation. Would love to hear recommendations for good clones.
  • Motion MTR - $135

    • Ok TBH this is maybe overkill for my needs, but I wanted something with dedicated offset and I like the pretty colors (but actually being able to easily visualize what your signals are doing is underrated as hell).
  • NLC Squid Axon - $185? (gotta ask my guy about price, not gonna build this one myself cuz SMT and I suck at soldering anyway)

    • I wanted a shift register to get some more predictable but varied sound. Perhaps a bit redundant with the Harmonaig, but I like the added chaos on this.
  • Mutable Instruments Kinks (or clone) - $100

    • Just a bit more logic, and I don't actually have a great random S&H source. Also I saw a nice little kit with the surface mounts already done that was like $70 so I may snag it just to have a little DIY project.

Altogether that takes me a bit over $1000 and doesn't account for shipping, but I'll survive. I am aware that there is a bit of overlap between some of these proposed purchases and some of my existing modules, but I prefer modules with more explicit functions over broad ones, and I may strip out some of the existing redundant modules. I also have some LFOs on the shortlist, probably Ochd or Triple Sloths to be picked up a bit later.

Please, offer alternative module suggestions or tell me if something here is just a plain bad purchase.

Like @zuggamasta my use of the modular is more experimental, but I am amazed by this type of achievement. In a way, our world of cables and modules is not far removed from 80s synthpop. There was a kind of fascination with machines.

So: well done!

Shift Register essentially stores the data in binary form, and it shifting the data in accordance with a clock signal reference. In fact, thanks to this feature, it is used for storing, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing data in a computer. Multiplication and dividing are actually the results of the shifting process.

Shift Register is a module that is designed for Eurorack systems, and it can run between 0V-+5V. It runs with a clock signal. This way, all the data entered through data input is synchronized with the starting and ending times of the clock signal. This module is a dual and 4bit Shift Register module. It can be accepted as a 4-step sequencer. The jack on the module that types data is input.Even if you enter a CV signal or gate signal, the signal you will get from the outputs is a 5V gate signal. The first output, on the other hand, gives out exactly the same pattern you entered in the data signal, only a better-synced version with the clock, while synchronizing with the clock signal, it shifting the written pattern to another output as the clock arrives. In fact, as a result, when you enter 16-note clock signals, you get a 16-note delayed version of the pattern you typed from each output. If you use this module in the audio rate range, you can run it like an oscillator with clock signals that are hear able for human ears. In this way, while patching with square waves in Logic, you primarily get different phase degrees of the data (square wave) you entered.

A VCA, tone generator, and ring mod unit.
Very simple build, mostly surface mount pre-installed, a few things to solder.
Sounds really interesting, a very good addition to your rack.

In this patch I used the Kickall as a melodic OSC which is accompanied by some sweet harshness coming from the Loquelic Iteritas Percido. More info in the video description.

Hi @Raaf.
Bravo for this first video which is already of an excellent level: the framing, the light, the decor, the typography of the comments (with the arrows, very good :) All this is pleasant. I will also make this small criticism: some long texts are not exposed long enough. On the other hand, your diction, which is quite slow, is an advantage. Some video creators forget this often prohibitive aspect: speed + strong local accent = zapping!
Good luck.
I'm subscribing.

Thank you so much for uour encouragemt! Im craating these videos with a lot of love and care so that means a lot! I will look into making the texts a little bit longer so they are easier to read. ❤️

RAAF!!!!!

Welcome! You have a great personality, and your camera work and lighting are already far ahead of the curve. You have a subscriber in me all the way. Can't wait to see what you do. I have no advice for you because I think you are already in a place where it'll be up to you to bob and weave, to tweak your channel until your audience arrives; but your willingness to post this and receive feedback tells me you are going to be just fine. In fact, that would be my only advice and you are already a pro at it: be open to changing your approach.

Thanks for sharing your new channel with us, I think you will have much success!

I love the presentation style of no talking during the music with the text overlays; however, a few of them seemed to disappear just a bit too quickly for ease of reading.

Other than that very minor detail, I thought the video was very good.

I especially enjoyed the info on Saraswati, little details like that are lovely and enriching. :)

Best wishes on your new endeavor!
