Clouds really needs an attenuation module as a patch pal, so you can control the amount of modulation you send to the parameters and have more subtle modulations (compare, e.g., the Echophon, which has attenuverters on board for this job (the white knobs)). I'd also think about getting something like a Wogglebug which would give you a tactile random source with which to modulate your other parameters.
Mixer wise, you might look into the Intellijel Dub Mix with the Aux expanders.
hi there,
maybe this is really sad but i just woke up with this thought about a modulargrid feature which i would like share here: there a hell of a lot hypothetical racks being created here. i am also filling existing but empty rack space in my planner with desired but not yet purchased modules as well. so here goes my suggestion:
would it be possible to consider a button on every module, maybe just below the info and delete buttons, to select if the specific module in my rack does actually physically exist in my proper rack or not. one way of visually solving this could be that once the button is enabled or disabled the module in my grid turns more opaque or, respectively, is displayed in all its glory.
this just crossed my mind because the bigger rack i'm owning has many more modules which i physically own than not. but sometimes, when i would like to acquire a new addition with a little spare money i have to think which one is the one which will actually make it into the rack then. being able to visually distinguish between the ones i'm using and the ones i still need to purchase would make this process of thinking and deciding a little easier.
plus, all those dreamy fantasy racks would turn a little more realistic as well.
Expert Sleepers makes great modules for getting stuff out of a DAW and into a modular. Check out the ES-8 (USB) and ES-3 (ADAT) in particular. In combination with their Silent Way plugin, you can even send CV directly to your modular from your DAW. No MIDI conversion required. You also might want to swap out one of those performance mixers for a Mutable Instruments Frames. Does something similar (signal routing) but in a unique way.
I have a way of working in my DAW That i'm happy with but I want to move it into a live context.
Instead of investing in guitar pedals, a live mixer and Midi controller I'd rather start acquiring eurorack modules
which will be far more versatile, powerful and be a better investment (for when I inevitable take the plunge)
The way I work is based around 8 or so midi channels of Euclidean patterns fed to VST's samplers etc.
I essentially want the ability to send 4-6 channels of audio form my soundcard to a rack so I can process the signals there
(using effects in a tactile dub-like fashion) by taking these Midi channels and converting them into triggers and control voltages
I've started sketching out a rack above and I'm looking for suggestions really for work flow, the 'mideco' may not be the best way of converting the incoming midi to control voltages/triggers and I know there are alternative live mixers around (wmd- to pricey, blue lantern - seems like its been discontinued or very hard to come by - certainly in europe)
and any suggestions for effects modules would be great. Anything that mangels audio in an interesting way, or any versatile dsp effects modules.
Hi and welcome, returncodezero!
Looking good to me. I would want an envelope in there though. And a LFO will be little use if you don't have an attenuator. THe M-120 is a useful one, also inverts and mixes CVs and gives you a manual fixed voltage.
Hi Everyone, I'm new here and Eurorack! I have done some fairly extensive research and I am quite keen on getting involved, however could use some advise on my proposed set-up. I am not new to synthesis per-say, however Eurorack stuff I am.
I have an idea of what I want to achieve sonically (Abstract/Glitch/IDM) and I have created an idea of a basic set up over on Modulargrid however I just wanted to get some feedback on it, hope that's cool?
Pittsburgh Structure enclosures seem to have the biggest power supplies and are available here in oz.....realise this is probably too late. How did u go? Also what thoughts on the Roland analogue stuff if u got it?
Elektron Machine Drum only triggers to modular synth. (gate and cv)

Hi I am looking at swapping out the Analog Replicator on my rack, as I would rather have a wave folder but it would be nice to keep a bit bucket delay. Is there anything that will fit in this small area?
Can anyone give me feedback? I think the the Mother 32 will eventually be pulled out into it's original case but I am to dependent on it right now. The synth block has grown on me but is another option for the chopping block if needed.
Thank you @sceledra for the Colour Pallette modules Fuzzalo, Variac and Wave Compiler. Good deal, fast shipping, pleased with the transaction. This transaction happened in August 2016 but I'm just getting around to leaving the feedback.
Thank you @fish for the Synthwerks MG-1 . I love this thing. Simple but effective. Received it very quickly and it was packed safely. Great transaction.
Hey, thanks for the suggestion. You are right that the overlapping of the absolute positioned tags is not ideal.
For some reasons we always tried to stay with the fixed height boxes but maybe we should change that.
I am somewhat blind for those design issues because it was always like that and there are so many other things to fix ;-)
So it's good to be reminded to look over that again.
cheers Knut
As a new user some of the design choices on this site are hard to deal with. Specifically when text is covered by boxes like 'tags' and the action buttons.
I have generated a short bit of CSS that fixes all these issues.
I think I may go with a Make Noise Maths 2 and a Mutable Instruments Veils tomorrow. Any thoughts on the VCA? Alternatives? I would like to have a mixer with CV controlled panning and level, but I think I may just use my external Mackie for now.
The Doepfer A-141-2 is a good exemple of VCADSR.
A cool trick to do with a sequencer and a quantizer is to feed a 8 or 16 step sequence in the quantizer, select a scale in it that fit your original sequence, then transpose that sequence in semitons (directly from the sequencer or from another keyboard/midi track). Quantizer will maintain the "off" note in the selected scale so you will end with a very musical result.
Intellijel µscale, Penrose Quantizer are good option since you can program the scale you want on the little "Keyboard" panel
At the moment I'm sequencing from a Beatstep Pro which provides pitch, gate and velocity per track. How would you incorporate quantisers/sequencers? Which ones do you like personally?
ok! kind of hard to tell for anybody else but...
If you want new type of sounds you can try some mutable instrument modules, Rings is my favorite!
You can also add some more modulation sources for weird sounds and traditional ones. The Batumi is a dope quad LFO with multiple options but it's just an exemple.
What i really like for conventional "instruments like" sounds is voltage controlled ADSR so i can vary one parameter with a random source and the decay with the keyboard tracking while triggering a short white noise with the "end of release". all that give a "alive" feeling to my sounds.
I also see you don't have sequencers or quantizers which are really usefull even if you play your sequences from computer or external "main" sequencer
Thanks or your reply :). I think I'm leaning towards West Coast. Considering that I've been told that some of my modules aren't that great (envelope generators, mixers, VCAS, LFOs), I'd like to know what the limiting factors are in your opinion and what potential solutions are to step things up. I'd also like to expand the range of sounds in general, both for more traditional as well as experimental sounds. I guess I'm looking for flexibility and quality - and would welcome character and quirkiness. I hope that makes any sense... What would be your first point of attack? Which modules would increase the value of my system most? I'd like to build on what's already there if possible but wouldn't mind making changes either. Finally, I'd like to have a nice delay/echo unit (but that's more of a separate question, really).
I'm about to visit Schneider's Laden in Berlin and was wondering how you'd develop my rack further if it was yours? What modules would you add and why?
I bought two modules from @belleville. I sent the purchase request in the morning, and that same afternoon, he had dispatched the modules. This is the fastest transaction I have experienced! I would also like to mention, that he had written “minor rash” and that turned out to be an exaggeration. The modules were in mint condition. Top seller!!!
OK, you win. I'm sorry, but this is the worst contribution I have seen for quite some time.
What's wrong about it: brand, model, hp, depth, the photo - and, above all, it was already added.
I have made my first modular project and have the above modules , except for the a160 clock divider.
Is this necessary as there appears to be one in the metropolis
I do not want unnecessary modules duplicating what something else already does perfectly well.
Does anybody want to advise me on the decision to cancel the a 160 as it has not arrived yet and will shortly be in transit so I would prefer to cancel the order than have to send it back.
I have not installed anything in the rack as it is waiting to be varnished at a friend's house, so am not yet in a position to experiment with the Metropolis.
Purchased a Boomstar LEVELS from @efFemMasterdrive and a CGS738 - Mangler from @sceledra and both of them were a pleasure to deal with. I would not hesitate to purchase from them again and could not recommend them any higher
Great transaction buying a Doepfer A-134-1 tracking module from @manolah. Good communications and the module was as described and well packed for shipping. They even sent me a tracking link, which was super nice and helpful.
I'm investigating building a modular analogue synthesizer, and learning electronics along the way.
I want to get a firm understanding of the supply voltage, inputs and outputs specification that is generally adopted, between each of the modules.
For example I'm aware a 15V power supply (a example from kynix:http://www.kynix.com/Detail/2587/LM3880MF-1AA.html) seems common; and 1V/Octave for the VCO. Is this correct? Is a +15v, -15v supply used? Also what is the output spec for the audio VCO?
Could anyone recommend further reading for these generally specifications and ratings?
I'm very new to this, and I'm starting with looking into the fundemental principles of a VCO, but want to build my experiments with the common specifications in mind - to drive to a useful goal. I don't want to just build a project thats out there, but learn the principles, design and build - I might not end up with the most stable modules.
No doubt pioneers such as Moog set initial standards, but keen to learn what the standard electrical spec for analogue synthesizers are, and how these expand out into the music studio.
