Well, the uO_C has analog shift register, chord sequencing, quantizing, envelopes, and more in a very small package so you would need to substitute a large range of modules to do what it does. The only problem is that it requires patience and is not so quick and easy to use. You really need to spend time getting to know it. For something more immediate, Marbles may be fun but much more limited.

uO_C is what I have recently been looking for cv quantized to create ambient melody but I am not quite sure about menu-driving. Is there any alternative module for this purpose ?

But it did work before you put it in the rack? I don't have the K-2, but for the Neutron there were small dip-switches in the back, I think, to set the MIDI channel. Does the k-2 have those as well? If so, maybe you need to also remove that little board from the k-2's case and connect it to the k-2 in your Eurorack case. Just make sure it's affixed to the case in such a way that it doesn't short anything.

I would definitely look into more modulation sources and utilities. How about something like Ochd, Mixwitch, and Pico RND? Or maybe a uO_C and Disting MkIV if you don't mind menu-diving?

I tend to program base sequences and samples using the pyramid. I then track these into the DAW using my Tascam Model 24 and do arranging in the DAW. I like to sequence in hardware so I don't lose the ability to just jam live. Lots of sound design practice in this track using all my synths, hardware, software, and modular.

Yeah for a pure quad LFO, Batumi is hard to beat. I am a modulation and sequencer junkie you could say and Batumi has most LFO beat. I mean there are others like Clep Diaz and Acid Rain Labs Maestro and Kermit super modulators that do way more than just LFO and are tons of fun and have their uses but if I just want a basic modulator, Batumi is hard to beat.

When the K-2 is mounted you lose the usb midi input. I have a Model D that i’m am sending my midi thru to the k-2’s midi in, but for some reason i get nothing from the k-2. Does anyone know what i’m doing wrong? (Sending midi via usb to the model d from Logic Pro)

Yes the Batumi is great quad LFO and especially with the Poti expander for the extra functions without setting jumpers on the back of the module. Probably my favorite LFO module thus far as it is powerful and simple to use.

I am still grateful to you and some other members here on this forum telling me this, now almost 2 years ago. I don't save money on a good Audio Interface Input/Output module. I want to be able to sleep at night and knowing that the next day my speakers still work and the room has not this awful smokey smell from last night when DC "slipped through" to my speakers!

Thank you Lugia, first of all! I'm not only running out of space, but also out of Amperes! I'm considering/planing a bigger case but a big sturdy wood DIY box and the Befaco Excalibus (1.25A on both 12V rails) at it's core. In the end it probably will be around the same price as the mantis or more, but I really don't like the mantis looks/material. Even with the bigger case I will still use the tiny modules. If I'm cool with the tiny 2hp sine in the middle of all my cables, there is not much else that can shock me. And then there is room to grow and space stuff out.

I already ordered the Antumbra DVCA. I had this on my list before and saw that pusherman has the full kit in stock so I grabbed it at an instance. The LPG will be next, was also on my watch list but didn't put it in the build before.

I also shoot myself in the foot as I see now that pusherman also has the nearness panels in stock. Anyways...

For the stereo Mixer I need to look into the Happy Nerding 3x Stereo Mixer (2x mutes and additional TRS out) vs. the Befaco ST Mix (4ins + aux). both coming in at 6hp.

The Noise Reap Paradox looks cool, reminds me of my first synth/toy, the Korg Monotron Duo (which probably is a extremly unfair connection I'm making here, but both are dual). I'll do my research on this VCO, but a nice 8hp oscillator should be easy to find.

Yeah I would love a whole row of frap tools stuff: Brenso, Sapel, Falistri, Usta, mixer, etc. Expensive but work of art if difficult to understand due to the iconography.

Had a little fun with this...

Added a dual VCO with interesting crossmod quirks, and two Takaab Nearness fixed-pan, fixed-level mixers. The Antumbra Dual VCA is an improvement over the Doepfer as it offers the same variable-response capabilities as the Veils VCAs. Also, I added an LPG for the Sine/Kickall combo so that you get a more drum-like result that should hit a lot harder.

The Nearness outputs should go directly to the Happy Nerding 3x Stereo Mixer, and you still have a third input (mono or stereo...the HN channels are normalized as "L = mono"). Then this now feeds the FX Aid more appropriately, since you're sending that stereo FX module from a stereo-out mixer. Lastly, I reordered it somewhat to make the signal paths and subsections more apparent for ease of use.

Also...this really would work a lot better with larger modules for ergonomics, which would necessitate a larger case. Something along the lines of a Mantis would be cost-effective AND fill that purpose.

One note here: VCAs that are able to affect CV and modulation signals should be LINEAR and also DC-COUPLED. These are sort of workhorse VCAs in a build as you can use them for basic audio amplitude control AND CV/mod control. But these need to be linear because if you change a voltage by a given amount, that amount needs to reflect the CV scalar system. Case in point: let's say you want an LFO to sweep a VCO by a 5th on one sequencing point, but by an octave on others. With that, it's just a matter of calculating the voltage change needed, then sending that from the sequencer to the VCA. Easy-peasy.

Now, what EXPONENTIAL VCAs are about is 100% about audio. Since we perceive "apparent loudness" on an exponential scale (phons), we use exponential VCAs so that an incoming CV or mod signal can affect the thruputted audio on that same scale. Also, VCAs for audio usually are AC-coupled...they cannot pass voltages down in the subsonic and/or DC range. This is useful because DC + amplifier + speaker =

And this is ALSO one reason why transformer-balanced output modules are also useful, because they block the same subsonic and DC signals.

Step #1, like Jim said, is to remove the M32 from the cab. It HAS a cab already, and it HAS power already. Eurorack cabs should be for things that DON'T have those already...unless you like making the M32 more expensive than it already is.

Step #2: overspec your power. Jim suggests a 20% overspec on current, while I prefer 1/3rd more than the module complement calls for. The reason is...and yep, this is significant with all of the digital modules...there is a very short interval at power-up when your modules can draw MORE than their rating, and that few milliseconds of overcurrent can cause serious problems for your power supply. And another reason: the more reserve current your power supply has, the cooler it'll run. Heat is very much the enemy of electronic components, and one of the main causes of component failure over time.

Step #3: rethink this. This build is very insufficient in terms of the supporting modules that can make the expensive ones in here already do what they should do. Removing the M32 will give you another 60 hp to play with, and I would suggest that you NOT fill that up with more "sexy" modules. Look instead at the "boring" modules...especially ones that can play with timing, given your sequencer complement. Also, consider carefully whether or not some of the present modules even belong in there, such as the impracticably-huge Fuzz module; could you do that better with a waveshaping module, or by having an outboard fuzzbox and a pedal send/return module?

Try and keep some perspective on what you're doing. These are some expensive modules in there right now, but they're not capable of fulfilling their potential without their support modules. Stop now before you paint yourself into a very costly corner! Avoid being all starry-eyed about these "sexy modules", also...they're really only as worthwhile as the entire build they're part of, and if the build is incapable of using them well, it's going to cost.

I'm warmed up with my skiff with lots of befaco utilities at it's core and now would like to fill this baby with some extras.
First up: I probably want to ditch the MidiThing and put in a drawer. I used the skiff stand alone 99% of the time in the last weeks, and I want to build on that. Midi in is nice and all but I'm neither a keyboard virtuoso nor do I plan to produce any daw programmed albums in the next years.

On my must have list is:
Befaco Kick All, I'm currently building my own kicks with the VCO, Rampage and AB+C, I want to free them for new stuff and have the kickall as voice.
Deddicated VCAs, The AB+C is currently abused as Audio VCA most of the time, but would be more usefull to invert and offset signals. I've choosen a small doepfer with the ability to switch between lin/exp and exponential response.
FX aid, to free the Disting a little from it's life of a reverb or tape delay module
2hp unity, to mix VCO + noise or simlilar or to mix CV

Things I'm considering:
Vox Digitalis or other quantised 8-16 CV step sequencer
Gate Sequencer or Shortbus

I'm really curious for other reccomendations or routes to go.

As long as the VCA fully closes, you should be able to do what you want to do. There are small mute modules that may make this task simpler, but you can modulate VCAs for more interesting patches. Check out this video from mylarmelodies for some VCA ideas.

I want to send CV from four channels out of a Qubit Pulsar and have that CV trigger samples elsewhere. Can I run each CV through one of the VCAs and "mute" the CV?

Agree @toodee- Intellijel rocks in every way. Clean functional module design, great functionality, awesome support team. I've been happy with my Intellijel modules like Mixup, Quadrax, Quad VCA and Tetrapad plus Plonk is great fun and the 1u modules work great.

@farkas- that looks awesome value for a 10 channel mixer! Have to look at it! I am using Praga now in my monster base case but need more than 4 channels so this could fill the gap.

I'm looking at the DIY version of this module, but I've only found one demo of it so far (and a short clip on instagram that wasn't great). With the factory version, it seems easy enough to dial in a hoover bass sound using detune. I'd love to be able to do that, I don't know if the drive function can get it done though.

I could get away without the bin seq I think, and I haven't actually pulled the trigger on the voltage block yet -- I would like a bit more CV modulation though and it seems like a good way to both sequence and modulate the rest of the rack. The er301 has tons of internal utility and modulation, including VCAs and so on, it can't send CV out though. You're right though, with the Pulsar in there too the rack has quite a lot of sequencers haha. They're for triggering samples in the ER301 as well as interacting with the visible voice modules.

I'll post another thread to get some feedback on the setup overall though, that's a good idea. Thanks!

general advice is leave at least 20% (preferably more) headroom - this is too allow for both inaccurate reporting of power draw/capacity and on-rush requirements of some modules that can be significantly higher than the quoted figures

you should aim for at least 2250mA on the +12v rail for these modules and I'd want to use real bus boards not flying ones

these power supplies are 'designed' to power 1 row of 84hp mostly analogue modules - not 140hp with a lot of heavy draw digital modules

or look to slim down a bit - take the moog out (or power it off its own supply in the rack - if you can do that?) and do you really need voltage block and varigate8+ and the bin seq (and the sequencer in the moog) in this size rack? maybe replace 2 of them with another veils (maybe get the new one!) and get rid of the output module (use veils as final stage for speakers/mixers and add an alm hpo if you need headphones - small, inexpensive and very low power)

maybe you could post another question about the other modules - it does not look to be a particularly balanced rack to me

My rack will draw 1803 ma +12 V and 290 ma at -12 V, which might be too close to maxing out. I'm not too sure how some of this works, whether it's as simple as matching up the power draw to the supply rating or if there's something I'm missing in terms of individual module requirements.

New to the powering side of things. I'm getting to the point where I should power it internally, but I'm using an antique suitcase and I'd rather not cut any more holes in the thing haha.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks for the comments. This is not an attempt to recreate a IIIC/P. It is based on my needs and preferences.

The 904C is not a module that is available to purchase. Maybe it wil be later.

As for the amount of attenuators and mixers, you can never have too many....hahaha

This isn't laid out like I recall the original IIIc. Shouldn't the CP3A-Os and 992s be on the bottom row? Why are there two of each, when the usual complement is just one each? And you're crippling the 904 filter pair in the upper right by not having the 904C coupler for them to work in tandemmed bandpass/notch modes. Plus, why all the attenuators? The CP35 (also should be in the bottom row, so you can use it to reduce the output to something approximating line level) takes care of a lot of this already. The sound should be right...but there's going to be some real differences in how this will "play" over one of the original systems.

It's good to hear that BCR32 and 2600 match so well. I am surprised to hear from you though, knowing that normally you don't like the "Behringer concept" very much, that you already done a full prepayment for the 2600. If there is one thing I have learned, no matter how "juicy" and nice something might look like (like the ASM for example that was once tested to me also quite a bit of a disappointment), I rather prefer to test it first at my local dealer before I really make a decision.

I've gotten some feedback via some European players who got theirs when Thomann got the first drop, plus from my sales engineer at Sweetwater (who knows first-hand what a picky bastard I can be about synths!), and the info was consistent: the SOUND is indistinguishable, but the "sweet spots" are slightly different, probably owing to the different slider pots used. And if it doesn't work, I won't simply return it, but I'll actually return it to Sweetwater in person.

Yeah, I don't like Uli. I've watched his business antics since the company first popped up, and I've seriously disapproved of his behavior since then. At least he's been consistent for the past 30 years on that tip. But in THIS case, I'd have to say that I'm more pissed-off at Korg for the whole "limited edition 2600 reissue" crapfest, which was the cherry on a bullshit cake that had taken a few years to bake as far as I was concerned. Even if they came out with a shrinky-dink 2600 at this point...yeah, don't care. Especially since there seems to be some very real QC issues with that $4k musical erection substitute of theirs.

But as for the BCR32...remember, I've used the ARP 1601 back in the day, and Korg's not made any move aside of the SQ-64 to come up with a substitute. The BCR32 comes a lot closer to the 1601, in that you have the ability to do a lot on the fly since the BCR2000 + ZAQuencer firmware was intended specifically as a LIVE performance tool, not merely a studio thing. And, of course, $150...plus, in THIS case, B. didn't just rip off the ZAQencer's developer, as he's getting credit for the firmware AND, apparently, a royalty on units sold. Hopefully that's a trend...except that they pulled the "Swing" stunt around the same point in time, so...perhaps not. Maybe the CCP will nationalize his factory and give it to Cuvave...which, IMHO, would be CRAZY COOL given what Cuvave was able to do on their own with a minimal budget. Not likely, tho...

Can't wait for the 2600 to arrive in the shops for testing! Usually a demo device arrives faster at my local dealer then the sales itself, since those kind of things, as you also already indicated, are sold out in a matter of minutes or hours.

This is why I did the lock-in the way that I did. I'm not getting burned on getting a new 2600 twice. But this would've been different anyway, since it doesn't come in a "LIMITED" "road" case that seems to have been made of papier-mache but which is part of the whole "LIMITED" rationale.

Really, I think Korg needs to issue an apology to the synth community for yanking them around for, in some cases, several YEARS with this 2600 shitshow. If they want to sell any "shrunk 2600s", that is. Otherwise, the Behringer 2600 is likely to be far more ubiquitous than Korg might like! And along with nonsense like $1400 green and blue MS-20s, drum machines without basic sync ports, attempting to rehash the Kronos as the Nautilus, rehashing the Wavestation as the Wavestate, etc etc etc, Korg needs to watch its step, as there seems to be a gradually-accumulating litany of errors from them in the past couple of years. Not good.
