waiting for Stages. I was in the same situation looking for more modulation (having some modules that require a lot of modulation to express their full potential as the basimilus or Qpas. Of course I explored Batumi, Oachd...but I explored tides and stages as well. I already have math that I really like for modulation.
I think tide is a very powerful modulation source ( keep it in my wish list for modulation of the rhythmical session) but I wanted to have more control, and stages offer multiple possibilities (using it as ad, adsr, multiple lfo...).
I will keep you posted.

Please don't hesitate if you have any other ideas...

I am looking at Winter Eloquencer, WMD Metron, Endorphin.es Ground Control (if ever comes out!) and 512 Vector. Once covid ends, need to try these out in a synth shop.

Hi all, interesting discussion. I have built my own first rack recently as well, and I am now in the same exact situation, I am looking for more modulation sources. My choice is stages, why this module wasn’t part of your recommandation?

This is the setup for my morning jam on Oct 05 2020.

Today I am keeping with the two voice theme, but for today I decided to use the Godspeed VCO running through the C4Bon.
The second voice is the bOSC running through the SCPL EQ.
I'm using the Euclidian circles as the rhythm to drive the two voices.
The note sequencing is coming from the O&C using the hemispheres module running two parts: 1) Enigma Jr. and 2) Note quantizer
I am also sequencing the filter as well to give more movement to the Godspeed voice.
Kick and Hats are coming from my Octatrack MKII.
Effects are from a Collider Pedal (delay and reverb combo)

Any and all feedback is greatly encouraged and appreciated.

I dont think that I am able to add some beats because the patch is gone forever... I did not take notes as it wasnt the result I was expecting...

For the sequencer, and believe me that I had a lot!, it came down to a combination of:
vector squencer+its expansion module
acl sinfonion
mi marbles
erica synths drum sequencer (but this is a component of the techno system anyways)

thats my personal sequencing dream and I can warmly recommend this setup!

I have tried your patch and its sounds so good!! Thank you for the direction. I'm going to experiment and add my op-1 by teenage Engineering using FH-1 expert sleepers to generate additional sounds! Cant wait to explore further.

The DFAM is making most of the noise here. Kicks and hats are BIA and Hats909 respectively. The Disting is quantising the DFAM's pitch sequencer, and Pam is doing all the triggering and modulating. Full track below.

Agree on Frap Tools stuff very hard to come by right now as you mentioned. There appears to be a shortage for a lot of modular stuff like cases right now. I read about a Make Noise shortage as well since the Black & Gold Shared system is not available yet and that would be a fun modular system to have since most of the modules in it like Maths and Rene are solid and the case awesome as well.

Lots of tension in this one, throw some drums underneath and you might have a banger, thanks for sharing @jingo

It's a nice little module @sacguy71, also 321 by Frap Tools is nice, but hard to get their stuff right now!

I need another attenuator/offset in my second rack and need to look into ALM Busy Circuits 0/a/x2 that would match Pamela and Boss Bow Two for a good tool support pairing to get clocking, switching and tools. I have the SBG which works great with guitar FX pedals and ALM support is responsive when I had issues.

Indeed eurorack and modular are some of the most addicting fun hobbies ever and the cutting edge of creative music world! I have been able to create the weirdest sounds that before were not as easy to do. Coming from a guitar and piano background, modular opens up millions of experimental options. Just watch that budget as it can be super expensive. I am trying to limit myself to my two 6U racks one of which is half full already the other completely full before spending another penny on gear.

Now for cables- I really like the longer Hosa eurorack patch cables they are solid so far but I did accidentally bend the end of one so always buy more than you think you need as you will run out after more complex patching! I like having a few stackable Tip Top audio cables so useful to use like passive mults which are key in a modular setup.

For brands, so far IME/Harvestman and Noise Engineering make the craziest wacked voice modules for many sound shaping options best suited for techno and industrial type stuff which I love. I like my core Doepfer modules they mix well with other brands and are solid built and sound decent as well. Intellijel makes good utility modules as does Mutable Instruments- love the Kinks and Links in my setup that Jim recommended to me a while back. While I do like the Richter Anti-Oscillator and Dual Borgh Filter a lot, the Malekko Quad Envelope and Varigate 4+ are trickier to figure out to do what I want in a sequencer and envelope generator. Plus Malekko support is sorely lacking! They don't even have manuals or solid documentation for a lot of their stuff!
Seriously, Malekko get your collective stuff together or I am never buying anymore of your gear!

On the other hand, folks at Intellijel, IME/Harvestman and Noise Engineering as well as Doepfer have been wonderful in answering my questions and technical issues right away when I had problems with their modules.

Nice work here @EroGumpy, I've had my eye on the C4BON and the SCLPL, I may try and fit them into my acid rack soon.

Personally, attenuators (and offsets) are the most underrated tools in Eurorack, I'm always happy when an oscillator or filter has them built in (big ups to Random Source for example). Re: Ochd, I believe it was @GarfieldModular who said if Batumi's a scientist, Ochd's a hippy. I definitely run mine through my o/a/x2 a lot, but you could also running several of its outs through Links to bring it down a bit and get more subtle variations.

Anyway, glad you are liking the new modules, post some tunes soon!

Wow, that's a great track, while listening at it, I totally forgot I was listening at a track of yours, I actually thought I was listening at my regular electronic music of Vangelis, Jean-Michel Jarre, Gandalf & Co. Till the music stopped and I thought hold on... whoops this was Mowse and not my own music collection ;-) I mean this as a huge compliment by the way. I think I have mentioned before, so at the risk of repeating myself, please come out with an album, preferable on CD, SACD and/or LP :-)

In general, the search for a good sequencer that fits well to one's needs isn't an easy task. Check a lot, read a lot, if possible try those you are interested in at your local dealer, and even then it's not going to be easy to find the ideal sequencer.

Perhaps start with a rather simple sequencer, to play around with it, gives you ideas what you need and what you don't need and then continue your search for the ideal sequencer. Once you have found it, please do let me know, I am still searching...

Thanks and I may swap out the SBG and Zeroscope to free up more space as I don't really use those two modules as much as I thought that I would. Waiting for others like Jim and Lugia to chime in what would be great additions as well. Thinking Disting EX+ PNW + sequential switch + Matrix mixer and maybe 1-2 more oscillators as the BIA and Cursus are more all in one modules and having a solid analog VCO and FM module would be great fun. Perhaps Plaits and Rings? IME Hertz Donut Mk3 looks great as well but it is digital.

Welcome to modular and eurorack! I am new as well and learning constantly. Folks are helpful and kind here. Mantis case looks solid- I will probably pick one up to put a decent sequencer, mixer, FX and utilities and few more voices/LFOs/ring modulators in as my 2nd 6U case is almost full.

Mantis case was a great buy, I highly recommend this case for all beginners. I am filling my case as I go having a blast, hope to push some patches out soon. I made a few additions based on module availability.

Yeah, zadar is great and kinks so handy, I'm so happy with both. Otherwise, I don't be sure with Ochd, because I miss a bit of control with it. Sometimes Ochd is great if you don't care the expression of modulations, for example when you search random stuff. But other times if you'd like a bit expression is little bit annoying. It helps a lot I have available attenuverters in most of my source modules.

Anyway, I guess is the best choice to get plenty modulation in 4hp. So I'll keep for the moment for testing a little more while I find another option.

Ornament & Crime, a sequential switch, and a matrix mixer might be good choices. A Disting might give you some good ideas too.

So I am getting decent mileage out of having Kinks and Links in my setup. What improvements would you recommend for these areas to round out my setup? Open to ideas for modules in terms of utilities, tools, modulation and voices to fill up the rest of my 6U rack.

This is my morning jam for Oct 4 2020:

This morning I decided to bring a second voice into the overall party, plus I did some tuning of my new external pedal effects.

here is the rough setup:
new voice of a bOSC running through the SCLPL EQ (this is going to be a really fun module when I get it dialed in and morphing).
My other voice is the MCO through the C4BON filter... love that as well.
Kick and hats are coming from the Octatrack
For my effects I am now running two external pedals.
1) A Collider pedal, a combo of a delay and verb
2) A OTTO Bit Jr. (but I did not have the recording setup properly to save that this time... but it will be there next time).

Pretty bent and out of tune, the main voice is the 2hp Pluck but being mangled and bent going through Monsoon Clouds in Granular mode with reverse-grains, further reverb on it from the 2hp Verb. There's a tiny bit of ADDAC105 4-Voice Cluster in there with an LFO from the Divkid Ochd hitting it, more ADDAC 103 for the Percussion which is mainly going through the Stereo Tape Delay on the Disting MK4.
Noise Engineering Clep Diaz, Instruo Ochd and 2hp RND all on Modulation duties, the RND Random Gates are turning the Freeze Button on and off on the Monsoon.
All plodding along at 50bpm.

Wow guys, that was much more feedback than I expected. But for me this is extremely fruitful, as small cases focus on just a few modules, and you learn a lot about the essential favorites of the others with talks like this. I did not know some of the modules you mentioned, and I will definitely consider exchanging the Audio IO module for two more versatile modules.
Envelope following would really be nice, but my dream would be a 3-5hp module with an XLR mic input, phantom power, preamp and envelope follower. Did I say that this must be skiff-compatible? LOL. In my bigger cases I use the AP-1, which is IMHO the best and versatile input module available, but it needs so much space.

Well.. I'll ignore Garfield's advice and suggest what I would do with this. I'll ignore the FH-1 since I don't really know what it does, but I expect it gives you many more possibilities!

• Circadian rhythms Clock and Reset outs to the corresponding ins on the Knights Gallop.
• Knight's gallop outs to the triggers of the Pico Drums
• Pico drums out into the Pico DSP, and from there into the mixer.
• All 8 channels of the Circadian Rhythms go into the Basimilus Iteritas, two of them passing through the Invy on the way (I suggest : Pitch and Morph)
• BI output to the mixer.
• I guess you could use the uMod2 for CV mangling, but since everything is under sequencer control in this patch, that seems like a waste. Instead let's use stack cables to take the output of the BI and the Pico Drums to the ring modulator and send that to the other mono channel on the mixer.

Now you can make some techno :)

After dedicating two long weeks to the company, I was finally able to sneak away some time this evening for a long jam on the Moog stack. Here's a slice of that set played on two Moog Mother 32's and the DFAM. I poached some eurorack for effects.

Now for ten hours of deep, uninterrupted sleep...

Yes those are European brands indeed and you forget one important one, Erica Synths ;-) Also European stuff. But you know the saying right? The grass always looks greener at your neighbour, in this case the North American modules look greener than those here in Europe ;-)

Since you like to travel overseas, perhaps we can meet once at the Superbooth once this virus thing is over? Then you can take a suitcase full of European modules back home, ha, ha! :-)

I try to integrate what I have already into the modular stuff to spice things up. The Make Noise 0-coast was my first patcheable synth that got me interested in modular 3 years ago. I also love using my two Elektron boxes to mix and layer beats and FX on the modular. All keeps me from spending too much money all at once.

Yeah working from home and the COVID lockdowns give me lot more free time at home to do stuff and getting into modular is a fun albeit expensive hobby. Then again, I used to take 5k overseas vacations twice a year so the money spent there went to modular gear which lasts. I am fortunate to be able to get modules for less living here in the USA and many modular firms respond quickly to my questions which is nice. Check out European companies they make lot of great gear probably less for you being in Europe like Befaco, Expert Sleepers and Xaoc Devices all are based in the EU/Europe I believe.
