Thanks, I thought so too. That gift was too interesting not to do something with it, lol.

ModularGrid Rack

ModularGrid Rack

Greetings from Nova Scotia, Canada!

My goal here is to build: dual, symbiotic ideas-boxes, that compliment my hardware setup.
Boxes will be mostly used in a small studio environment, however it is a shared space, and must be mobile.

I have what I call my Elektron Trinity (ET), which is comprised of: Syntakt, Digitone and Analog4
Each have lovely sequencers built-in that I use to build the foundation for my music.
I'm also really deep in to iOS software and want to use an es-9 so my iPad Pro can integrate.

I'd like to explore and potentially include more Joranalogue modules like the Switch 4, Route 4 and Select 2. Could anyone suggest resources for, or examples of this?
Perhaps that could be helpful to a visual learner?

Punch away! All critisism wecome, constructive or otherwise.

Blatant oversights?

"If it were yours?"

Thanks ahead to anyone who chimes in!

if you have a bsp, that could be your issue.

Creativity has nothing to do with gear. It's you that needs to be creative with the tools you've got. Completely re-think your system, make a smaller setup and focus on certain ideas or modules, read Allan Strange's book on synthesis techniques... For sure you'll get creative again.
Also: there's some modules being released that are completely new like f.i. Klavis Grainity, MN Spectraphon (maybe not completely new), phase modulation oscillators... I'd just stop looking at all those new things and record an album with the stuff you allready own. ;-)

perhaps go even further than this... create a single patch - ie a costom instrument and create a whole album with it... you can change the tempo, notes played, any switches and knobs, but not the patch cacles... you'll really learn to play that instrument... then pull the patch cables, create a new instrument and repeat...

"some of the best base-level info to remember can be found in Jim's sigfile" @Lugia

Utility modules are the dull polish that makes the shiny modules actually shine!!!

sound sources < sound modifiers < modulation sources < utilities

Thanks a lot!

With recent SuperBooth and the ever refreshing homempage of Thonk, I'm just not seeing anything creatively new or inspring being released in eurorack format.
Past creative modular players are now just using YouTube to sell the next module they are being paied to sell...
New setups are just techno or pinged etheral ambience, and no one is really thinking outside the box...
A thread to discuss if anyone else has picked up these vibes, or it's just me falling out of love with modular (I hope it's just a phase!)

After ca. 24h you are not a new user anymore. The limit is just there to keep the bots out.

Maybe people gravitate to modular from certain music styles they enjoy, though the entire point of it is experimentation to me.
I'm quite prodedure lead as a person and its always been an important part of all my work from mechanical Engineering, to Print Finishing & Graphic Design then onto Brewing, so experimenting with different procedures to make sound is about all I need. I'm sure I tend to make "techno or pinged etheral ambience" ;-) plus experimented with more Drum & Bass and Noise patching.
@Farkas is right, dive back in and patch something up differently, do something you don't normally do.

Enjoy your spare HP, don't rush to fill every last space, this is not like filling sticker books. Resist the urge to 'complete' your rack, its never complete so just relax.

Hmmm... I would disagree that modular artists are only making techno or ambient, though modular is great for those styles. I know the Melvins, for instance, just completed a modular album of Throbbing Gristle covers. Like any synth music, modular is only limited by your imagination and/or choice of modules. What kind of music are you making?
I'm kind of at the point where I don't need to shop for much gear to explore the kinds of sounds I like, so I'm not sure what's going on in the "synthfluencer" and retail world. Everything is cyclical, so I'm sure there will be ups and downs.
I've found that running everything through my rack is fun... guitars, bass, drum machines, vocals, keys, you name it. If you don't have a preamp of some sort (or multiple preamps!), get one.
This post sounds more like you are bored with the instrument you've built. The Fender Stratocaster has basically been the same for 70 years, and it's still inspiring people. Dive back into your rack and try something new.
Have fun and good luck!

A voltage and milliAmp meter for your rack. Gives you at-the-moment insight into the power draw of a module (or set of modules) so you can insure you’re feeding the right amount of power, and also validating the manufacturers specs.
Handy when you’re pushing the limits of how much stuff you can put in a rack section.
Mostly surface mount already installed.

Thread: Change Log

Fixed a small bug that prevented new manufacturers from posting news.
In the process accidently deployed a new feature were users can thumbs up forum posts.

Thumbs Up button in the Forum

A simple Thumbs Up function that lets you leave a thumbs up on a forum post.
Second click on the Thumbs Up button removes the Thumbs Up.
Narcists can thumbs up their own posts.

Hello knob-twiddlers!

They make some eurorack-y things. There are a few modules already here representing their handiwork.

Thread: Marketplace

What's so hard with giving a seller or buyer a thumbs up?

When I sell something, I often agree to a proposal, take the time to wrap it up really well, and keep the buyer up to speed untill it arrives at the buyers house. I always like to verify if it arrived and in what condition. In the past one would give a thumbs up, but nowadays after even asking to consider a thumbs up, sellers seemingly just can't be bothered. I personally find this annoying to the point of acting in the same way.

Mind you, it's not solely MG, I have the same issue with Reverb and other online marketplaces with possibilities for reviews. Which is a shame really as it sort of filters who is trustworthy and who isn't, both sellers and buyers, so you're basically helping out the community in a way.

So please consider those thumbs.

Cool love it up there so peaceful. I just had a jam with some local folks where we jammed all day on modular and drank beer. A good time. Do you know about the Monday modular Zoom meetups on Modwiggler? PM me if you want to know more. Met cool synth friends there. My goal this year is get workflow and recording where I want it to be and master my gear.

Hey, I love mountains too. Sounds like a fun jam session with modular and beer. The mountains remind me of when we were happy with my family. When I was in high school, we lived in Sandpoint, Idaho, but then we moved when my parents divorced, and I lost contact with my father. It became my childhood trauma. I read some research papers here https://studydriver.com/childhood-trauma-essay/, and I liked the advice to get into music. Now modular synths help me deal with sadness and nostalgia. I hope you get your workflow and recording up and running soon. Good luck in achieving your goals through music.

I have a feature request. I am 100% new to modular and questions arise. Questions I hope the forum could answer. But I cannot open a new thread because I am a new user. But I cannot contribute anything usefull to other threats because I know nothing. Anything I could write would be "on nice" or "I wouldnt do it that way..but I dont know"
So my request is, new users should be able to open new threads, otherwise a new guy like me will never be able to use this forum..

Simple question not answered by trawling google.

Does anyone know of a replacement silver front panel for a Rings clone?

I'm a private person and have become more so seeing that generally more and more personal information is being stored for what not.

Having said that, I would suggest a rack should be set to 'private' by default, or that you change that if you prefer it to be public. Good idea?

Nice work :)

Thread: Patch #1

To do
* move 2hp hat next to addac
*

Thread: Patch #2

To do
* move voltera to the left of Metron so easy access to modulate lxr
* fix flow top left of case so it's: exander > voice > EG > VCA > Addac (left to right or right to left)
* Add Ochd or Doepfer Quad LFO
* Add sidechain support (2nd compressor with sub mixer?)

yeah get something much bigger...

& which 4 modules? you are almost definitely lacking in many areas... especially support modules...

more small changes

  • Added the Markdowneditor to the Module Upload forms.
  • Changed the term HP to better matching terms like Unit for non Eurorack formats.
  • Added sticky Submit buttons on longer forms so you don't have to scroll to the bottom to submit.

I have 2hp free on my synths case. If someone can recommend any ADSR module with VCA in only 2hp that would be great.

Thanks.

An option to organize modules in racks by manufacturer.

Zeta_fxn - how do you define 'organic noise'? Do you have any examples online?

Another option would be to get rid of the Function / Secondary Function dropdowns and add a list of all functions with a +/- to include or exclude each.

-- general_disorder

Drop downs like the filtering functions in Excel and similar spreadsheet programs. Could be done.

I would like to easily filter out blank panels.

Second on this

-- Dub007

something like this?
image

or is there another context where excluding blank panels makes sense?
-- modular01

Could be done that way, yes. Or more extensive filtering preferences defined elsewhere. :-) Implementation wise this would be equivalent to trusting the tagging data of modules, not including anything tagged as a blank panel.

Taking myself as an example, I am not interested in 1u modules at all. To filter out those by default I have to save a link with that filtering setting already set (full size only).

Posted this a year ago with no responses. In the meantime I've added a few devices to the pedal view but I still feel Desktop should be its own category. I use 4ms Pods as placeholders for my modular, but I see they have been recently unlisted?? Still hoping to be able to see my setup, all in one, here one day .

I'd like a desktop layout where you could blend a screenshot of your modular rack, or many, along with any standalone equipment like synths and drum machines or guitar pedals and effect units. The pedals feature kinda does it already but it would need the addition of a lot more desktop devices and of course the screenshot as a device idea. This would make Pod layouts possible where you could arrange several separate small racks in a single space.

Thanks

Thanks foe the feedback. Luckily I live in Japan so I should be able to drop by beforehand and check it there. I did a quick test in the lab and everything powered up, but I'm moreso worried about the modules actung strange like you mentioned.

First off, congrats on a gig in Japan!
As for two prong, it will give you floating ground. Some modules won't work correctly or not at all, with with a two prong power connector. You should be able to pre-flight check that with a two-pronged PSU. I use a two prong Toshiba notebook brick with a Tiptop uZEUS and Make Noise René doing all kind of weird things got me hopping mad.

Soery if this is a stupid and/or annoying question. I am supposed to perform in Japan next month and the venue only has 2-prong power available (no extra grounding screws on the outlets). However, my modular rig runs on 3-prong power supplies (2 Arturia Rackbrute 6U's and one custom case powered by a 2HP lunchbox power supply, also 3-prong). Any ideas on wherher or not this will even work? I am not fluent enough on this matter and have had a difficult time finding any concrete info on it. It's a bit confusing to me because my smaller module is a 4ms 48x and shipped with a 2-prong power cable.

Hopefully I can drop by the venue and check the rig beforehand, but I'm hoping somebody can assist with any info.

I had good results using a triangle wave for the clock signal as well. Because it doesn't have the sharp edge, it's inaudible. As a consequence, you can continue using the dry/wet mix of the FX Aid and you don't need to mix dry back in afterwards.
