More detailed Consent Settings

You should already have seen this if you are reading this post: we have new cookie consent settings. I also looked over the site, evaluated and removed cookies that were not necessary.
This is a plattform which uses external content like YouTube videos, Soundcloud, Bandcamp and I think that should stay this way. The new settings reflect that.

Marketplace settings

The choices which region offers should be displayed in the marketplace are now saved.

sure, but shouldn't it be simpler? sometimes, it feels weird. "the internet" is perfectly capable of storing, analyzing our every move, reflected in ads and served content everwhere. but saving an actual deliberate choice? sorry, that's rocket science. not to diss modulargrid, but it's something i find odd not just here.

Power Consumption as CSV

Unicorn users can export the power consumption data sheets of their Racks as CSV to do whatever they want to do in Open Office/Excel.

Rack Chooser on the Detailpage

You now can choose from a module detailpage to which of your racks a module should be added.

I never met Paul but we were Facebook friends. When I heard that he had passed away, it hit me hard.
Today I have uploaded a banner graphic to the Synthesis Technology manufacturer page.
Synthesis Technology was the second company ever created on MG and the E350 is the module with a single digit Id because it was my first oscillator.

I am not sure about fixing the E352 in the list because that would be technical complicated and somewhat misleading but I think about some other way to keep up the memory.

O.k. now I can confirm the problem. It has nothing to do with Plaits, it looks like the last module you click on a search page triggers that not found error. Might be related with the Show Blank Panels checkbox. Will look into it.

What are you doing to get this output? Do you query the database manually? This is a json request that points to the wrong pagination page.

There are not enough results for a page 2 so that is the culprit, it should read find/page:1.json or just find.json

Manufacturer Index Page

The new manufacturer index page lists all manufacturers per modular universe and answers the question of how many there are. Find it in the main nav.

Popular Modules Yearly Stats

The Top 25 Popular Modules statistic on the homepage counts how many modules have been added to racks since the beginning of ModularGrid time in 2013. This gives you an approximate indication of how popular a module is.

But times and modules change, so in addition to the all-time favourites list, there is now a filter that limits the list to modules released in the current and last year.
So if you want to know which is the 🔥 hottest 🔥 module of 2024, you can find out now.

There is also a Top 100, find the filter at the bottom.

Filter option for Blank Panels

There is a new filter option Show Blank Panels in the module search form that let's you hide modules with the function tag Blank Panel assigned.
This is a workaround until we have refactored the entire Alt Panel functionality.

We will very likely change the alternate faceplate functionality soon.
Until then I have deployed today a filter option to hide Blank panels from search results.

Bug Fix: the Median Price function now calculates the median and not some fantasy values.

The Used Price History history on the marketplace includes now the median price. The median price ignores the very low and very high offers and could therefore represent the more realistic price. Unicorn feature.

This should work but can change anytime.

The solution is to redirect (301 redirection, it's important for the developer to know) all incoming traffic directed towards the .com domain to the .net one. In this way every previous link will continue to work and you cak keep the alternative domain in a safe SEO way.

Thanks, I am looking if the Cloudflare servers make any noticable sense. Have no user reports about that. For me it does not feel faster so maybe, we just fix it back to .net and 301 everything like you said.

no CSV, but Unicorn users can get XML and JSON formats by adding .xml or .json to their rack url.

I am not sure. But I have successfully tested it right now.
I logged in in two different browsers (Chrome and Firefox on a Mac) with the same account. I could copy/paste modules from different racks.
You hover the mouse over one module in the first browser and press c than go to the other browser, hover with the mouse over the rack (important) and press v. No CTRL, no CMD, no ALT, just the keys c and v.
Keyboard Shortcuts must be enabled, Rack Lock must be disabled.
This does not work for you?

Limited marketplace offer notifications

A new unpopular feature that nobody asked for: I've limited the number of automatic watchers you can set for offers on the marketplace.
On the module detail pages is that button Notify me if someone offers this module for sale. Standard users can sign up for 5 module notifications, while Unicorn users can set up to 2500 watchers.
The reason for this is that the mail server has been blocked several times due to excessive traffic, causing important features such as user messaging and optin registration to stop working.

alias subdomain for MG?

modulargrid.com is now an alternative domain for modulargrid.net. It uses Cloudflare so it might be even a bit faster.

Merged a lot of duplicates today and added over 30 missing brands.

Moved the entire site to a new server

The entire site and the screenshot server moved to a new faster server. It's now cloud everything 16 core/64GB RAM with SSDs and whatnot. All the server software (Linux, PHP, SQL, ...) was updated, we have a web firewall, the screenshot software was rebuild from ground. Still some hiccups here and there but overall it went well.
We lost the www in front of www.modulargrid.net. The site is now just modulargrid.net (as if anyone would ever notice).

(Sry, the rack doesnt shop up directly, because its a "pedal rack")

If you see this text it means we are on the new server.
I think we are through the rough stuff. Did not see major problems. Please report if something is not working right. (Except all the old bugs, we moved them too).

On April 10th at around 12.00 CET ModularGrid and a Terabyte of Rack Screenshots will move to a new server. This will take a couple of hours. The website will be in "read mode", which means that rack planning will not work, but the modules should still be searchable. Downtime hopefully will be minimal. See you on the other side!

Can you log in on different browsers at the same time? Though I guess that will stop you copy/pasting.

It's still wonky, we are currently migrating to a new screenhot server ...

Currently we have a problem with the email server, because the hoster has introduced a new quota/limit for emails. That means you might not get emails or they are delayed. We are on it ...

I am not against it in general but it is quite an effort especially to port the data to MG. The images on that page don't look very useful either?

I don't give up. There is a new update where the Search field will not lose the focus when the cursor hovers of the rack above.
This should prevent most accidental deletions of modules. However now you have to click on the rack again to make the shortcuts work.
