Hi :)
Just willing to send some of my Octatrack tracks (through Cue OUTs) to my modular for processing/mangling.
Which basic module can anybody recommend?
NOTE: if possible the simplest module with no level/volume adjustment as I am willing to keep the same level as what is coming out of the Octatrack.
Thanks for any hint and/or advice,
L

Hi :)
Many thanks for your advice.
Based on what the manual of the OT says regarding gain, it states +17dBu peak.
The Boredbrain Music Xchangr states: One stereo receive with selectable +12/+18 dB amplification.
Is this what I am after?
Sorry for my lack of knowledge...

Yes, I believe this is what you are after. If I'm not mistaken, the +12 db is for line level (your Octatrack cue outs) and +18 db is for instrument level guitar pedals. There is a switch for +12/+18 on each set of ins and outs. The Xchangr would allow you to have one stereo or dual mono set of inputs to your modular, and two stereo or dual mono outputs to send back to your Octatrack or to an external mixer, effects processor, etc.

Hey :) Sorry if I sounded harsh as I was not expecting a definite answer... As is with modular :) Thanks for taking the time to explain though, much appreciate. Will look into it seriously as I am after such a device and this is a little unknown territory for me :) Best

You mention that you don't want volume adjustment, but I think you actually need it to get the octatrack on the same level as your modular sounds. For example, if you would use the Octatrack sound as a modulation source without boosting, you would only get a fraction of modulation out of it. Every +3dB is double the volume, so +18dB is a lot.

The one Farkas mentions has much more ins and outs, and I think that's what you want. But here's the one I have: Mutable Instruments Ears, and I like that one. There is only one 'in' on it, but it has an Envelope Follower and pretty heavy extra gain if you want it, the overdrive is very tasty. So the mangling can already start at the input module. And of course you can still use that overdrive when you don't use external gear.

Thanks for your input and the details.
As stated, I am new to this (modular/line level) and this is not that clear for my old mind :)
I will look at EARS as well. The overdrive is added value indeed :)
