hi everyone!

I'm coming to you because I'm a little bit desesperate.

I'm very new in the modular world and i dont know any people who knows about.
I'm watching videos, looking information as i can on internet but it's really hard to understand everything like that.

I have a arturia minibrute 2s. i plan to make a system around him first and maybe on the future, i could leave him and stay full modular. But for now, he's my hub. i would like to make a Serge/Buchla-oriented synthesizer.

I bought the 6u rackbrute, the alm pamela pro workout and a doepfer a151. I played with these modules and enjoy it. now i want to go further.

i already know what i want as an instrument. i dont really need advise for that but i would like to know the viability of what i plan to do.

this is a system that i could consider :
ModularGrid Rack

the lower part is about the modules i really want and the upper part is about some ideas that could solve some problems.

i dont want to buy everything now like a crazy. I'll go step by step. but i like to plan and for that i need to understand how it's work.

My question is the following :
Does the lower part represent a realistic system?

i dont think that the selection of module is bad but this is the domain where I'm bad. i dont know if I'm going to run out of utilities. what's the real need of utilities for this combination of modules? maybe a matrix mixer could be nice? maybe a quad vca is absolutely needed? my mixer is it enough ? is it good? maybe i need more utility like attenuverter, offset or something else...?

then if someone can give me some advise about how i can make a system like that work , i would be very grateful.

ps : i put the falistri frap tools on the upper part because I'm hesitating between math and falistri. if someone have a opinion about the relevance of one or the other with the idea of my system, tell me.

Howdy and welcome! I think that lower row is a very capable collection. As they say, "You can never have too many VCAs", so I'd definitely recommend something like that Quad VCA. That's also a cascading mixer, so you can use channel one as a single VCA and use the other three as a mixer if you wanted to (or split as 2 and 2 for audio or CV, however you'd like!). Maths gives you a bit of attenuversion, but I'd still recommend having a standalone one too. The 3xMIA or TipTop MISO are both great for doing offset, attenuversion, and mixing. Matrix mixers are also super fun, and particularly for Serge style patching they make feedback very easy and fun to control. I think that Moog style mixer is also going to be good for adding character.

I personally don't really like the layout and labelling on Frap Tools modules so my preference is for Maths, but both are extremely powerful and helpful in learning concepts of voltage in modular.

So overall, you've obviously done your research and have a nice balance of modules selected in that bottom row, but would absolutely recommend getting an additional offset/attenuverter/mixer and the quad VCA. Knowing you already have the minibrute, I'd recommending getting the Maths, Wogglebug, Step 8, and Quad VCA next and play around with those. After that the Bifold is the least redundant with what you already have, and when you're ready for new sound sources move on to getting the rest of that audio path.

Cheers friend!
