Look up onThe CS-2 is one of those early BOSS compressors that still makes sense the second you step on it. It has a smooth, natural feel that works especially well for players who want a little more sustain and a more even response without losing all of the character in their picking. The simple Sustain, Level, and Attack control layout is a big part of why this pedal has aged so well, and the original manual lists a 38 dB compression range along with both battery and AC operation.
What I like about the CS-2 is that it does not feel stiff or overly squashed unless you want it to. You can use it as a subtle always-on compressor, or turn it up for that familiar vintage sustain that helps notes hang on a little longer. It is a classic Japan-made BOSS pedal for a reason, and clean early examples still have a very loyal following because of that warm, even response.
Accessories
Main unit only
This Japanese-made CS-2 can run on a 9V battery or external power. For AC operation, the original manual specifies a BOSS ACA adaptor, and Roland’s current support note says pedals specified for the ACA adaptor should be powered from the proper ACA-style setup or a 9V battery rather than a standard PSA supply. If you use an aftermarket adaptor, please use one intended for vintage BOSS ACA pedals; 12V center-negative replacement supplies are commonly sold for the CS-2 / ACA format. PSA-type adaptors run at a lower voltage and may not power it correctly.
