In case anybody else runs into the same issue, I didn't need to boot Sweet Sixteen after the Disting. But what is imperative is to have the Disting Ex's i2c address set to 49 0x31. That's what Sweet Sixteen seems to use in Sweet_3 firmware, so that's what the Disting Ex needs to listen to.
