Quad voltage controlled amplifier cluster and mixer
4 X VCA is a 12HP, 34.5mm deep quad voltage controlled amplifier and mixer.
Current draw V+ 150MA / V- 150MA
The module consists of four voltage controlled amplifiers, mixed into a master output by default, which can be mixed or broken off individually as required. It will process both audio and CV signals. It can be used as a cluster of VCAs, a mixer, or both.
Each amplifier has a level knob for manual control, and two CV inputs for automation via midi to cv, modulation from LFOs etc.
All amplifiers are summed to the master output by default. The master output has its own master level control.
Inserting a cable into any of the individual outputs will break the corresponding amplifier off of the master output and allow it to function free from the mix. If cables are hooked up to all of the individual outputs then the module will function as a cluster of independent VCAs. This ties in well with a module like the 4 X ADSR for amplitude envelope generation.
A useful module that can cover mixer duties, function as a group of VCAs as would be found in just about any synthesizer configuration, or used as a mix of both. You can even use it as an output mixer with a degree of level automation available to it if you're tight on space.
The module takes a bit of a back seat in the demo below, but in this configuration you can see how a channel is being used as a gated amplifier which is tied to the manipulator module, manually gating the output of the radio chain as the track runs. The illustration of the chain comes to life at 2.10
