Basic slew limiter / Comparator
SF501 “FLOWCTRL” Is a very versatile and simple addition to your eurorack system. It features a slew limiter with separate controls over rise and fall time, as well as a range switch (left one) which allows processing audio signals as well.
The slew part does essentialy what a portamento on analog synths does - it “smoothes“, or “Interpolates“ a signal at set rise and fall speed. For instance, a step sequencer CV out can be processed through it to add glide. Dial in how fast the glide will rise or fall to the next step's voltage with the knobs. It can also be used to add the same glide effect to the midi2cv output, shape square LFOs into trapezoid shapes, or even process audio to apply esotheric filtering.
The second part of this module is a comparator. It compares voltage output of the slew a limiter with a set voltage dialed in with the smalle gray knob. A CV jack is available to control the comparator along with the grey knob. The comparator's outputis a logic gate on the CMPR OUT jack. If the slew out voltage is higher than the voltage set with the knob, the gate is high; it is low otherwise. This can be swapped places by flicking the NRML/INVR switch. Comparator is and important versatile gate extraction tool. It is possible to extract gates from white noise with it, or, for example, use it as the detector part of a compressor setup along with the slew limiter.
this module is very old and SYNTHFOX is not making it anymore. We are in the process of developing a better functional analog!
