Clock Divider & Random CV

Clock Divider & Random CV – Kyofu V2

From a single clock, create unpredictable rhythm and motion.
Kyofu V2 is an upgraded version of the original Kyofu clock divider, now enhanced with a brand-new Random CV circuit.
It generates 8 gate outputs and 1 random CV output simultaneously from a single clock source — packing rhythm and modulation power into a compact 4HP module.

Overview:
Type: Clock Divider + Random CV Generator
Outputs: 8 × Gate, 1 × Random CV
Size: 4HP
Power: 16-pin (requires +5V line)
CV Range: 0–5V
Gate Level: 0V / 5V
Power Draw: +12V: 0mA / -12V: 0mA / +5V: TBD

Description:
Feed a clock signal into CLOCK INPUT, and Kyofu V2 will generate 8 gate signals and one random CV output — all in sync.
The clock divider has been completely redesigned, now producing more varied and musical gate patterns compared to the original.
A green LED on the RANDOM CV OUT reflects the current voltage level, making the modulation visually intuitive.

At higher input rates (for example when driven by a VCO), the Random CV output can act as a pseudo-oscillator, producing chaotic yet harmonic modulation textures unique to its random-wave architecture.

The form factor remains the same as the previous version, allowing easy drop-in upgrades in existing setups.

Key Improvements from the Original Kyofu:

  • Adds Random CV Output (with LED indicator)
  • New gate division algorithm for more organic and less repetitive rhythms
  • Supports audio-rate input for pseudo-random oscillator behavior
  • Same 4HP width and 5V-powered design

Usage Tips:
Basic Setup:
* Send a master clock (0–5V) to CLOCK INPUT
* Patch each GATE OUT to envelopes, drum triggers, or sequencers
* Patch RANDOM CV OUT to filter cutoff, VCA, or modulation inputs

As a Pseudo-Oscillator:

  • Input a high-rate square wave (from a VCO or LFO)
  • Use RANDOM CV OUT as an audio-rate modulation source
  • Produces noisy, grainy, and irregular waveforms with lively overtones

Typical Clock Ranges:
* Rhythmic use: a few Hz to tens of Hz
* Audio-rate use: several kHz

Patch Ideas:
* RANDOM CV OUT → filter cutoff for evolving movement
* GATE OUT → multiple drum voices for unpredictable polyrhythms
* RANDOM CV OUT → quantizer → VCO for semi-random melodic patterns
* Combine with logic modules (AND/OR/XOR) or shift registers for even deeper chaos

Behind the Name:
“Kyofu” (強風) means “Strong Wind” in Japanese — a symbol of energy and momentum.
This version, Kyofu V2, continues that storm of creativity: stronger, wilder, and more alive than ever.
