About the Unicorn Account

Description

The overall condition of this Mungo Enterprises d0 is very good.

technical condition

  • Very good, but see the next section, DACs
  • I am the first owner
  • This is the revised version, which does not draw 5V power. Its current draw is 80mA (+12V) and 25mA (-12V).
  • This module requires a zoom switch for optimal operation. If you need one, I will include it along with a Mungo 2hp or 4hp panel as preferred.

DACs

  • Here is a matter which should be mentioned (although I do not personally consider it a fault, which is why I never returned it to Mungo for DAC replacement): this is one of apparently several of the revised d0s with 'noisy' DACs; its SNR is potentially subjectively lower than optimal. This may or not be an issue depending on how the module is used; for example, the noise floor can be made insignificant with a low-pass filter in the feedback path.
  • To give some illustration, please listen to this basic demo (MP3 or WAV as preferred): https://m.cardamines.net/a/d0_DAC.mp3 / https://m.cardamines.net/a/d0_DAC.wav
  • Please note that this is not a technical analysis of the SNR, purely a subjective example.
  • The details of the recording are as follows.

Signal flow: Mungo g0 --> Mungo m0 VCA, linear envelope --> Nonlinearcircuits Clump, Mungo d0 mixed in for feedback loop --> Expert Sleepers ES-8 (ADAT to Focusrite 18i20 USB) --> DAW (no processing other than gain, no peak reduction)

Timestamp:
0:00 Dry g0 signal
0:09 Mixing in d0 without feedback or input; note increased noise
0:19 Mixing in a feedback loop to create delay effect
0:44 Removal of dry signal from feedback loop and output, petering out of delay effect to only d0 noise floor again

cosmetic condition

  • The front panel has some scratches, quite typical of 0-series Mungo modules. See image below
  • In the photograph I've supplemented, for colour-coding purposes, the silver jack screws on certain inputs and outputs with gold and black ones. I will restore the original silver ones when I send the module out to a buyer.
