Populus is the first fully touch-based and recursive patch pin matrix, allowing for the touchable toggling of an entire (passive) patch/switch matrix, comprising seven inputs and seven outputs: connect or disconnect between patch points using touch, and toggle using incoming, outgoing (planetary) signals, or any external skin source. Fingers, body parts and worms replace pins, cables and switches for performative switching of all skin signals, severing and suturing complex feedback paths.

Populus is the latest addition to the ERD/geomantic toolkit which rounds out the ERD system comprising All the Colours of the Noise, caput draconis, TOAD, and VIA. These can also be used in any system as generic utilities with an emphasis on routing, switching and fine control.
