matrix and non-matrix polyrhythmic sequencer

Skippy MK3 is a Eurorack module designed to explore new rhythmic forms beyond the boundaries of traditional sequencers.

Unlike grid-based sequencers that operate with fixed, regular steps, Skippy introduces a time-based logic rather than a matrix one: durations are not placed on a rigid grid; time itself is treated as a fluid material. Durations stretch, contract, overlap, or disperse according to polyrhythmic, Gaussian, random, or fractal logics.

This makes it possible to generate unexpected rhythmic structures:
– the superimposition of independent cycles;
– the alternation of asymmetrical durations;
– combinations of controlled randomness and mathematical order.

Of course, depending on the selected functions, Skippy MK3 can also lock to a regular matrix grid whenever desired.

Skippy is not merely a sequencer: it is a workshop for manipulating time, an instrument for shaping rhythm, a tool that treats time itself as an experimental material.

Main Features
- 4 independent tracks, each represented by a colored button, a concentric circle on the screen, and an output LED:
Red, Yellow, Green, Blue. Each track provides its own CV/Gate output (≈ 3.5 V).

  • Real-time control: Central encoder for navigation and editing
Track buttons to select which voices are affected
Instant response (no need to stop playback)

System Functions
• SAVE / LOAD: 100 memory slots (0–99) stored on internal SD card
• NEW: instant reset to default values
• Clock modes (CLK IN)
POLY → averaged external clock, Skippy retains its temporal fluidity
POLYSTEP → hybrid mode: strict for matrix functions, flexible for time-based ones
MATRIX → step-by-step mode, like a traditional sequencer
RST → input used as Reset only
• CLK DIV: multiply or divide the external clock.
• CLK OUT:
Clock → standard master clock output
Cycle → one gate per full rotation of the red track
• Expanders: compatible with EXP, LIVE, CVIN, or a combination of EXP + CVIN.

General Functions
BPM: 10–600 BPM, per track or global; external sync supported

STEP: 1–64 steps per cycle, independently per track → instant polyrhythms

BEGIN & END: partial loops within circular arcs

GATES: adjustable or proportional length (10–90 % of the interval between steps)

PROBA: probability of skipping a step

CHAOS: random temporal offsets per track

WAY: direction (, ping-pong, stop)

SWING: rhythmic groove between steps

SPIN: rotate steps within the cycle

PAUSE: per-track mute (also via button or CV with CVIN expander)

RESET / RESET SYNC: manual or end-of-cycle synchronization (also via button or CV with EXP or LIVE expanders)

ROLL: rhythmic subdivisions and ratcheting (regular or random)

Specific Functions
GAUSS: distributes steps logarithmically or in bell-curve form to create accelerations or density peaks

EUCLID: Bjorklund algorithm for evenly spaced rhythms

Enriched Euclid: ready-made rhythmic templates (Bossa, Tresillo, Techno Kit, etc.)

TILES: alternating blocks of played and silent steps

POLYR: alternation of two tempi (e.g., 4/3), stable polymetric structures

JAZZY: 32-step patterns arranged as shifting rhythmic exercises

FRACT: self-similar structures (Morse, Sierpinski, Rule 30, Cantor, Dragon, Van der Corput, Noise)

Enriched Fractal: multi-track fractal combinations (CantorCan, DragonShf, PolyWeave, TechnoRot …)

LINE: polyphonic melodic generator

Expanders
EXP (2 HP): Reset + Play/Stop (button or CV)

LIVE: Reset, Play/Stop, 16 assignable knobs (BPM, STEP, Gauss, etc.) + 4 knobs for enriched functions

CVIN: End of Cycle output, 4 Pause inputs (CV + buttons), 4 assignable CV inputs with attenuators

EXP + CVIN: both expanders can be used simultaneously
