Expander for Plinky
This simple 4HP expander plugs into your Plinky and turns it into a capable quad LFO and midi input/output device, providing:
- 4 LFO/modulation +-5v bipolar CV outputs, labelled 'A B X Y'
- TRS Midi input (type A or B both work) and output (type A)
- USB Midi, flashing and web-editor support via a sturdy USB-B connector so that you don't need to take plinky out of your case to use it with your USB host.
The 4 bipolar analog outputs allow Plinky's 4 'modulation buses' to be used by any of your other eurorack modules. A and B are connected to the dedicated knobs on plinky, while X and Y connect to plinky's accelerometer. In addition they support all of Plinky's LFO shapes, warps, speeds, depths, and offsets.
As with USB midi, Plinky generates and responds to notes with polyphonic aftertouch, as well as mapping many of its parameters to midi ccs.
The module can be powered from Plinky, so only a single cable is needed from Plinky to the expander, and no power is needed from your case.
All the fiddly SMD parts are provided pre-soldered on the main board, however this Kit requires SMD soldering of 8 LEDs (with pre-drilled holes) and 1 eight pin SMD socket, so you may wish to buy tweasers. It is however an excellent first / introductory SMD project as there are so few components to solder.
NOTE that owners of V1 Plinky (green mainboard) will need to mod their plinky with 2 short wires (not included). This simple modification is explained in the build guide (https://plinkysynth.com/docs/expander-build-guide) and is not necesarry for V2 Plinky's (blue mainboard).
NOTE listed MSRP is for DIY kit
