Compact Bass Filter (LPVCF,VCA,Envelope)

The BF2144 is a compact module that combines an LPF using the SSI2144 with a special envelope generator and VCA.

Since it has a built-in EG and VCA, you can use it as easily as a low-pass gate module by simply inputting a gate signal.

This module is self-oscillating and can be used as a sine wave oscillator. Therefore, if you turn on the VCA when in self-oscillation mode, you can easily output a kick drum sound by simply inputting a gate signal.

The FM knob acts as an attenuverter. The signal input from the FM input is adjusted by the FM knob and then modulates the cutoff frequency. In addition, the ENV output is internally wired to the FM input. (Patching to the FM input will cut off the internal wiring)

The VCF output has a soft clip circuit. This reduces the volume balance difference when changing the Q and provides a saturation effect when the Q is small.

The ENV output is wired to the internal VCA. The VCA ON/OFF switch allows you to select whether or not to pass the signal through the VCA after the VCF. This VCA are discrete transistor designs, which results in asymmetrical distortion. This gives the vintage synth feeling tone.

EG is the DSR envelope. A single ENV knob changes the decay time, sustain level, and release time in unison. The higher the Env value, the larger each parameter will be simultaneously. If you apply a short pulse to the gate signal, it behaves like a simple decay envelope. Also, if you input a long gate signal, you can get a natural envelope, just like when you pluck a string. Another interesting behavior is that when you cycle the gate on and off quickly, the Env output level increases slightly. This can be used to add accents to synth phrases.
