Chiptune Wavetable Oscillator and 12-bit Sampler
WaveBoy is an 8HP Eurorack module that implements the behavior of the 4-bit wave channel on the Nintendo GameBoy, specifically the behavior found in the LSDJ (one of the GameBoy music trackers). It also includes a Noise mode that has LFSR and a number of bitwise noise algorithms. A 12-bit Sampler is also included that supports basic loops and bitcrushing. The 2nd output can be used for step sequencing, as an alternate audio output (for detuned or sub-out), or as an LFO.
A realtime bit/sample crusher, delay, and envelope follower alt-modes are also available.
At the core of WaveBoy is a variable clocked (pitch-based) DAC meaning the sample rate of the DAC is determined by the desired pitch. The result is a fairly unique sound with some intentional aliasing. The kind of aliasing that works really well with certain filters too (most notably the Doepfer Wasp).
