The loud and destructive Big Muff sound In response to the original Op-Amp Big Muff from the late 1970s selling for exorbitant prices, Mike Matthews decided to reissue it at a price that would make this classic pedal accessible to many players. The circuit of the new Op-Amp Big Muff faithfully reproduces the design from the era known as the IC or V4 Big Muff, while also incorporating several practical features such as a compact die-cast chassis and true bypass. To create its signature sound, this pedal uses op-amps instead of transistors for the amplification stage, and the gain stage consists of three stages rather than the traditional four. Kit Rae, a Big Muff collector and expert on its history, describes the sound as follows: gItfs a very loud, destructive Big Muff sound with more distortion. Itfs perfect for grunge, wall-of-sound distortion, and heavy rhythm and lead playing.h It shows some signs of use, but functions perfectly.
