Used Electro-Harmonix Op-Amp Big Muff Pi pedals have arrived! Seeing the original Op-Amp Big Muffs from the late 1970s selling for astronomical prices, Mike Matthews decided to reissue this classic pedal at a price accessible to many players. The new Op-Amp Big Muff circuit faithfully recreates the version from the era also known as the IC or V4 Big Muff, while adding several practical features like a compact die-cast chassis and true bypass. This pedal employs an op-amp instead of transistors for amplification to create its signature sound, and the gain stage is configured with three stages instead of the traditional four. Big Muff collector and historian Kit Rae describes the sound as follows: "It delivers a very loud, destructive Big Muff sound with more distortion. It's perfect for grunge, wall-of-sound thick distortion, and heavy rhythm or lead playing."
