Can't decide between a fuzz and a treble booster? Want that classic germanium clean-up? Up for sale is my Analogman Sun Lion, an absolute beast. Fuzz is powered by a couple of 2SB175 transistor while the Beano Boost is driven by an Analogman-selected NOS Ge transistor. Like all Sun Lion's, you get an LED per-side so you know what the hell is going on when playing live. Fuzzes get the ladies, but nothing cuts through a thick amp like a treble booster. This one has a 3-way switch to select and emphasize different frequency spectrums. To me, this is the real star of the show. And remember, friends don't let friends drive fuzzes into clean amps (see other listing for a Chase Tone Secret Preamp). It's also the law. Selling to free up space and thin the fuzz herd (coming soon will be a raft of Sunfaces).See the attached video for a sonic tour and below for the manufacturer's description. Note that the video is a Sun Face, not Sun Lion, but the fuzz side is the same. The Sun Lions I found online are using a different transistor, so not a fair comparison. Bought this used (Ex condition) in 2023. I can't speak for the previous owner, but it has only been used in my home studio. It is in superb condition but does have velcro (and footies) attached on bottom. Original box and paperwork included. Battery also included but will be packed separately for shipping as I don't want it rattling around in there. Besides, some users choose batteries like shiitake mushrooms. * US shipping only, sorry. Purchases on Fri-Sun will ship out the following Monday. Unit will be well packed.** Offers will not be entertained or responded to, thank you.*** Sale will be conducted through Reverb only. No videos, photographs, texts, or calls will be initiated so no need to ask.Manufacturer's Description:True Bypass on both sidesTwo 3PDT stomp switches, one for each side. Either or both can be used.Status LED on each side.Your choice of Germanium transistors, selected for best tone and low noise on Sunface side. See our Sun Face ordering page for more info on the optional transistors.NOS Germanium transistor, selected for best tone and low noise on Beano side.High quality RE'AN British input and output jacks, top mounted for pedalboards.Battery disconnected when INPUT cord removed (input is on the right).Sun Dial bias control is standard.Optional ON/OFF battery switch integrated into BEANO VOL knob, so you don't have to unplug pedal if it's in a pedalboard.Power jack is NOT standard, if you choose to add a power jack you can use any Boss style 9V Isolated power source.Battery should be a cheap non-alkaline general purpose battery, as found in the dollar stores. These will sound better than an alkaline.Size is 4.75" wide, 3.75" long, and 1.5" tall not including switch etc (about 2 1/8" tall to the switch).2SB175 Germanium Transistor (fuzz)We also have some really cool 1960s Japanese 2SB transistors that we are using for our germanium Sunfaces. These are a little brighter and fuzzier than the NKTs. They are usually made by Hitachi, Toshiba, or Matsushita. I remember buying dead Japanese Acetone organs back in the early 1990s to get 2SB175 transistors for making Fuzzfaces when a friend told me how great they sounded. The 2SB is a little darker and woolier than the TI/UK. Some of these that measure at low gain are great in our low gain germanium option, to duplicate the sound and great cleanup of the white dot NKT275. We have two models of the 2SB, the 2SB171 which is lower gain and the 2SB175 which is higher gain. Both sound great, smoother than the other germaniums, not as much edge. These 2SB transistors were often used in the Japanese CRAZY FACE fuzz pedals sold at Sears in the early 1970s, small black round Fuzz Face clones. They usually sounded bad because they were not biased correctly. By changing a few resistor values they can be tuned to sound excellent.
