Description

This is one of the rarest units made by Eric Barbour of Metasonix, the KV-100 Assblaster multi-effect tube synth/effect. I hate to sell this considering the difficulty of acquiring it and my fascination with it's unique sounds, but I need to slim down the rig. This pedal can conjure up sounds from outright sonic mayhem to smooth fuzz-wah and distortion. This sale includes extra tubes for the preamp (V1 and V2), and the pulser tube (6BQ7A). Preamp tubes must be exact pairs and cannot be mixed. Included are NOS pairs of black plate mil spec 6AK5s and 6AU6s including Mullard, GE electric and Western Electric. The different preamp tubes will lend a slight overall nature to the tonality . . . i.e. The Ring Mod effect w/ 6186s is less intense than say the 6AK5s. 6 - 6AK5s, 1-6BS8, 1-6BZ8 and 2- 6AU6s. They all have different sounds and if you are studio musician these tubes will last a lifetime, my preference is for the 6AU6s as it's a smoother tone, but I never got around to swapping them out. The pedal is in excellent condition. The grey tacklebox has feet, one of which is a little wobbly but not loose. The surface of the unit is shiny and yellow. It functions perfectly as you would expect from such an incredibly well built unit. Power supply was not pictured but it is included. This is the 3rd (or 4th?) one I've owned and it did NOT come with the manual, which is fine because it was annoyingly glued inside the top of the tackle box on most of them and frankly it's not that helpful . . . it didn't even provide one of the biggest hacks, using a 1/4" cable plugged into the ring mod carrier input to remove the oscillator noise if you just want the awesome wah sound without any other noise bleeding through. The manual is available freely online as a pdf, and I'll send the link it to the purchaser. I bought this one to be my keeper, but I've encountered some economic turbulence. I only got to turn it on twice in the past 2 years and recorded only a single video with it - it sounds great but I've moved away from making noise music for the time being. I know there is someone out there who covets this thing and is dying to own and use one in the studio. It's such a sweet sounding harmonically rich tube signal path that there is a plug-in that tries to emulate the bypassed sound of it made by Softube, I believe.Warning This pedal does not play nice and there is a bit of a learning curve to get optimal performance, so do not buy expecting it to be plug and play. For instance the noise gate must fully open (even though it never really is 100% open) unless you want stuttery sounds and it likes stronger or weaker input signals depending on the chosen preamp tubes. Do NOT buy this pedal if you are unsure of what it is or you are just dabbling or insecure in any way including financially. It will sound broken at first because with everything turned on the default function is to be one of the most aggressive ear-destroying analog synths on earth. It can be tamed with practice and advice which I will gladly give. If you don't want the extra tubes let me know, honestly I would only use them for this unit and I'm glad to part with them they've been taking up space in my coveted tube locker for a decade now.Free Shipping. Here's the official description from the Metasonix site:The Metasonix KV-100 is not called the "Assblaster" for nothing. We've taken all of our knowledge of extreme vacuum-tube audio processing and combined it into a single convenient, easy-to-use package. Inevitably, the end of the TM series will cause shit-eating, ass-fisting guitar players to whine about how "underappreciated" they are. So, we're feeding them a foot-long fecal sandwich of audio penis. It's complete with disgusting and juvenile cartoon art by Dave Lovelace, of Retarded Animal Babies fame. The KV-100 contains the following:--five goddamn real new-old-stock VACUUM TUBES. --the basic preamp stage of our TM-7 Scrotum Smasher, driving: --the waveshaping (pulser) and ring modulation functions of our TM-1, minus the ring-modulator carrier oscillator, which then drives; --a VCO derived from our TM-3 (it is NOT intended for use as a synthesizer pitch source, only as a special effect for signal degradation), leading to; --an all-new wide-sweeping bandpass filter, with envelope filter function plus wah capability (external pedal); --plus an envelope follower, which also makes a gate signal; --and a noise gate on the output, which is always active and is driven by said gate signal.Plus relay-based true bypass for the main circuit, plus relay controlled activation of the VCO and pulser. Controllable with manual switches or external Fender-type amp footswitches.Plus plenty of processing inputs and outputs for control voltages. No MIDI, dammit.Only 8 knobs allow for vast ranges of distortion and effects, from subtle to flaming-enema. It's for those filthy, nutsack-sucking guitarists. Because they deserve, and love, flaming enemas.Yes, you can plug your damn guitar into it, Yes, you can plug line-level sources into it. Yes you can run the output to a guitar amp or any mixer. Yes, all the inputs and outputs are compatible with modular synthesizers.
