Description

Vintage 1990s Marshall Blues Breaker pedal for sale in great shape. Killer sounding overdrive! I bought the pedal used in 'Very Good' condition and it's still in the same shape it was the day I got it. To my knowledge, the pedal is all original except it has an aftermarket battery door and an aftermarket nut on the output jack*. No original box or paperwork...*Important word of caution to potential buyers: Both jack nuts are already tight, but if you buy the pedal, don't try to loosen or tighten the input/output jack nuts without holding the body of the jack (from inside the pedal) using a pair of needle nose pliers. These stock jacks are soldered directly to the board, so wiggling the jack around can easily break solder connections. There are several paint chips and scratches around the body which includes areas around both the input and output jacks. These chipped/scratched areas were touched up with a permanent marker as can be seen in photos.According to a Marshall pedal dater on the web, Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal Serial No: B17188 (this pedal) was manufactured in 1991. The first-generation Marshall "black box" pedals (including the Guv'nor, Drivemaster, Shredmaster, and Bluesbreaker) were produced from 1991 to 1992. A Reverb listing for a 1991 model, serial B12023, confirms that the "B" prefix corresponds to the first year of production. The following info is directly from the internet:The Original Marshall Bluesbreaker PedalMarshall released the original Bluesbreaker pedal, with its signature oversized "black box" chassis, in 1991. ·It is known for a smooth, low-gain overdrive that emulates the sound of the 1962 Marshall Bluesbreaker amplifier, particularly associated with Eric Clapton.·Originals produced during the early '90s are highly sought-after collector's items and are not to be confused with the subsequent reissues.·The original pedals can be identified by the first-generation chassis and the power jack, which does not have a circle around the positive and negative symbols.  Subsequent Bluesbreaker pedals·Version 2 (mk2): A second version of the "black box" Bluesbreaker pedal with slightly more gain was released in 1992.·BB-2 Bluesbreaker: A smaller, silver-chassis version, less popular than the originals, was released in 1999.·Reissue: In 2023, Marshall released a faithful reissue of the original "black box" Bluesbreaker, in honor of the company's 60th anniversary.  Internal circuit variations·MK1 Version 1.1 vs. 1.2 circuits: The Bluesbreaker pedal's original "black box" run featured two slightly different circuit board designs. The 1991 Bluesbreakers were most likely equipped with the earlier 1.1 circuit.·Resistor values: The primary difference between these circuit versions is a shift in resistor values in a key section of the circuit. One version used 33k and 27k resistors. The other used 3.3k and 4.7k resistors.·Tonal impact: These different resistor values influence the tone, with the higher values tending to produce a warmer sound. The variation means that not all 1991 Bluesbreakers sound exactly the same, which is a known quirk among pedal enthusiasts.  Power jack labelingA notable cosmetic difference between the original Bluesbreaker pedals and the 2023 reissues is the marking on the power jack. ·Originals (including 1991): The positive (+) and negative (-) symbols on the original pedals have no circles around them.·2023 Reissue: On the reissue, these symbols are enclosed within circles.  Known Quirks·Input jack wiring: The original Bluesbreakers used a less sophisticated wiring scheme where the input was always "tapped into the circuit," even when the pedal was disengaged. This is different from a modern true-bypass design, and while it's not a variation, it's a known quirk that affects how the pedal interacts with other units on a board.·Battery door foam: Due to the age of the pedals, the foam pad on the battery door of vintage units often deteriorates. While not a manufacturing variation, this is a common condition for 1991 models and an indicator of authenticity.
