The Boss DS-1W is a premium distortion pedal from the Waza Craft series that builds on the classic DS-1 with enhanced tonal versatility through a dual-mode design. One mode ("Standard") preserves the original DS-1's sharp attack, defined distortion and harmonic richness, using the familiar gain stage and tone circuitry. The other ("Custom") gives more midrange emphasis, more input sensitivity, and a louder output (about +6 dB), allowing the pedal to push amps harder or cut through mixes with more presence.
Its controls include knobs for Distortion (gain), Tone (EQ shaping), and Level (output), plus a Mode switch for selecting between Standard & Custom. The pedal features a buffered bypass, 1 MΩ input impedance, 1 kΩ output impedance, and needs a recommended load of 10 kΩ or greater. It is powered by a 9 V battery or an external DC adaptor of the appropriate specification.
In terms of physical layout the DS-1W has dimensions of about 73 mm wide × 129 mm deep × 59 mm high, and it weighs approximately 430g including battery. The current draw is about 15 mA, with an expected battery life of around 50 hours using alkaline cells under continuous use.
