This is the often under appreciated Boss CE-3 that has been upgraded to sounds of sweetness. This is an early black label, MIJ model and is in very good condition and comes in its original box. A few things were done. First, I did the 9v mod so that the correct power gets to the chips. This version was designed to use the Boss ACA adapter, which was 9v unregulated power - meaning that it put out 12v! There is a step-down circuit in there that takes it to 9vDC. When using a modern, 9v regulated supply the circuit can be starved for voltage resulting in a dim LED, but more importantly this can cause the audio signal to clip resulting in increased noise at output. Not good in a chorus effect, so my mod fixes that problem. Next, I upgraded the two opamps in the signal path from the stock 4558DD chip to hi-fi NE5532 chips for a cleaning chorusing effect. This chip raises the threshold of the signal clip, so you can have smooth chorus at higher volumes. Then I tweaked the circuit to add more available depth, and finally I added a switch that let's you go between the stock chorus (switch up) to a Leslie-like swirl (switch down). Finally, replaced the worn grommet and put in a blue LED. Warm, clean and super versatile with stereo outs and two position switch. Lots of tweaking and experimentation to do with this effect.
