Description

Hello,Up for sale is Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress Flanger V2.This is a vintage pedal from the 1970s, made famous by use from artists like Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour and The Police’s Andy Summers.I purchased it in all-original condition about 4–5 years ago, but since I don’t really use guitar effects, I decided to sell it. However, while testing it before listing, I found an issue, so I had it repaired and am now putting it back up for sale.Being such an old pedal, and given that U.S.-made pedals from this era often lack the circuit stability of Japanese ones, the repair took quite a bit of time and effort—not to mention significant cost.To ensure everything was in perfect condition, the technician performed a full internal cleaning, checked detailed components, and most importantly, replaced the SAD1024 chip and the clock control chip. Both were replaced with vintage original chips, and I’m also including the original ones that were removed. One remaining quirk is that when the Range knob is turned past a certain point, a high-frequency noise appears. Even after replacing the chip, the issue persisted, and after investigation, we believe it’s due to the original design of the Range knob’s resistance value exceeding its intended operational range. This assumption is backed by the fact that this unit reproduces the sounds of other known units (including famous recordings) very accurately. (Apparently, this issue can be resolved by replacing the original 100k resistor with a 50k one.)Range: Adjusts the sweep width (from narrowest to widest).Aside from that noise issue, which only occurs when the Range is turned up high, all other functions are completely stable—especially since even the clock chip was replaced.During the repair, I also learned that this pedal is quite sensitive to battery voltage.(This is true not just for this unit but for the model in general. For example, if you use two brand-new 9V batteries, the actual voltage may be close to 20V. If installed as-is, it exceeds the rated 18V limit, resulting not in a louder or quieter sound but in a distorted, broken output.)I believe this pedal would be best suited for someone with a good understanding of or experience with vintage gear and can do at least the calibration.Let me know if you’d like to listen to a sound sample or a video. Thanks.
