Powerful tonal control!
When developing a bass distortion, getting a punchy, aggressive sound while maintaining sound pressure is like fighting a contradiction. If tightness is desired, the bass must be suppressed to prevent saturation of the low frequencies, which often results in a lighter tone. Microtubes X is a solution to this problem.
First, the input signal is split into two signals using a low-pass filter and a high-pass filter that can be set arbitrarily. The signal passing through the high-pass filter (mid to high frequencies only) is distorted by CMOS circuitry, just like all Microtubes pedals. The signal through the low-pass filter (low frequencies only) is left clean and untouched. By mixing the distorted high frequency side of the sound with rich overtones and the clean low frequency side, an aggressive distortion sound can be created while maintaining a thick low frequency range. Even if the strings are in poor condition, or the instrument itself has a light or boomy tone, Microtubes X allows for powerful tonal control.
