The BOSS DS‑1 Silver Label is the classic DS‑1 distortion pedal with an updated silver bottom plate introduced in 1994, enabling compatibility with the PSA-series adapter. It retains the original 1978 circuitry—a transistor boost followed by an op-amp stage with hard-clipping diodes—delivering its signature tight, aggressive distortion and rich harmonic texture.
The pedal offers a three-knob interface—Distortion for gain intensity, Tone with a unique "tilt" EQ that simultaneously boosts highs and cuts lows (or vice versa), and Level for output volume. This tone control design allows a wide range of sounds, from cutting rhythm to smooth lead tones, while preserving low-end definition. Turning down the guitar's volume reliably cleans up the effect without introducing muddiness.
Housed in BOSS's sturdy metal chassis with buffered bypass, the Silver Label DS‑1 draws only about 10 mA from a 9 V battery or adapter and fits easily on pedalboards.
