The Charlie Brown V4 is based on the popular V3, retaining its core and soul while adding greater flexibility and options. Looking at the pedal, you'll find controls for VOLUME, DRIVE, BASS, MIDS, and TREBLE.The VOLUME control functions like an amp's master volume. Turning it clockwise increases the volume, while turning it counterclockwise decreases it. The DRIVE control adjusts the amount of distortion/overdrive in the signal path. Turning it fully clockwise applies maximum distortion, while turning it fully counterclockwise yields the cleanest setting. When GAIN is set to 50% or below, it produces a coarse, low-gain overdrive, reminiscent of the sound favored by Jimi Hendrix.Setting GAIN (DRIVE) to the upper half opens up a new world, with its natural crunch sound standing out among our overdrive pedal lineup. Turning it fully clockwise unleashes the paradise of high-gain overdrive.The new feature in V4 is the addition of BASS, MIDS, and TREBLE controls. We determined that to faithfully reproduce the sound of a vintage Marshall amp, it was time to incorporate a complete Marshall-style tone stack. All three of these controls perform band-specific cuts and boosts, with a relatively flat response at the 12 o'clock position.
