Description

In excellent cosmetic condition, and now works great. Didn't work when I found this. Main issues: Missing the Peak control pot and all three knobs; someone had tried doing "upgrades" and made a mess of things on the board including a few solder shorts; in and out jacks were bent up and the input was shorting out; partially broken off top of Mode switch post. What I did: Replaced Peak pot - this is an odd value (150k), but I have sourced some with the correct diameter bushing so it was an easy replacement. Replaced the input and output jacks with Neutrik jacks. Replaced knobs with vintage, set-screw MXR knob set and made an insert for the Mode switch (see last picture). Cleaned up the circuit board, then because the parts installed for the upgrades were cheap modern parts, I replaced those with Nichicon electrolytic caps and in other places used metal film capacitors and installed three NOS 1979 Signetics metal can 1458 opamps. After getting all this done I calibrated the optocoupler (these models have a handy trimpot as stock). Put it all together and it works beautifully. One last issue for me was I found the tone too bright, even on the lowest setting. So I add an extra 10uf cap in parallel to the stock one (see it there under the input jack on the back of the board). Perfect! Makes the High/Low rocker very usable here. Wonderful tone and super responsive to all levels of pick attack. This is the Mu-Tron, Inc version put out by ARP in 1979 after Musitronics went kaput. Uses AC power, which is converted into bipolar power on the board (no batteries to leak!).
