Description

This is a custom, 1 of 1, Longsword from EAE. For my tastes, the boost was too mid focused. John @ EAE was kind enough to tell me how to get it modified for a flatter boost. It sounds really great now. It still gets nasty with the boost, but it's more versatile with a wider range of pickups and amplifiers. You can see more details below. This is a really great pedal, especially if you are recording or playing live. Mint condition with the original box. Expertly applied 3M brand Velcro on the bottom placed with care so as not to affect the sticker. From EAE:The Electronic Audio Experiments Longsword is yet another contender in the endless void of op-amp based drive pedals—familiar but with some novel twists. Cascaded gain stages allow for the full range from clean boost to massive distortion, all without sacrificing tonal flexibility. The equalizer combines bass and treble shelving filters with an active, frequency-selectable midrange boost/cut control. This lets the user sculpt a diverse array of tones and carve out a niche in even the most dense of mixes. The Longsword has a broad frequency response which makes it work equally well with guitar, baritone, and bass.ControlsLevel: output volumeDrive: go from light grit to heavy overdriveLow/High: James/Baxandall tone stack (shelving filters)Mid: active midrange boost/cutShift: selects frequency controlled by Mid potDiode: selects between clipping diodes, to alter dynamics and headroomUp: MOSFET clipping, medium compressionCenter: no diodes, minimal compressionDown: Silicon diode clipping, maximum compressionBoost (Footswitch): engages a front end mid boostBoost (Knob): adds up to 20dB of gain when the Boost is engagedFrom John @ EAE:OK so if you want to attempt some modifications: the Longsword boost is very strongly mid-focused. It cuts both bass and treble fairly aggressively. The place to start to make it full range would be increasing the capacitor C3, which is on the left edge of the board (somewhat northwest of the Boost pot). I would bump this up to 220nF to start. If you need more bass you can keep increasing it. The work was performed by XAct Tone Solutions in Nashville, TN. You can see the work order in the photos.
