We love Chase Bliss pedals here at Chislehurst Guitars. Joel and the guys have produced a series of genius - and ever-so slightly mad - boxes that really are unrivalled for their innovation, versatility and build quality. Right now, we have three Mint examples to sell, this Generation Loss MkII (s/n 02645) plus a Habit & a Blooper. The Chase Bliss blurb calls Generation Loss a VHS Duplicator, and a 2-in-1 magnetizer, and a study of tape in all its forms - they like words as well as noise! If you're thinking of buying this you probably know the back story. But to put it simply, having scored a breakthrough years before with a pedal that captured some of the weird delays old tape players produce, the guys decided to have another go. Literally, they took apart loads of different kinds of tape players, from VCR to camcorders and children's toys, and created variations of all the wobble, wow, flutter, crackle and whoosh those can make ... and put them all in a single box so we can add some of that weirdly wonderful texture to the sounds we want to make - with guitar or keyboard, or harp! All of which may sound interesting but a little cranky. And it is. There are sounds in this that you'll only ever make on an otherwise boring, wet afternoon - but don't knock that, because like a number of Bliss pedals this box will help you find and refine usable sound ideas. Yes, you'll make a lot of noise ... and then you'll make nice noises you want to repeat. Personally, I couldn't imagine trusting this thing on stage, but it definitely has a practical use when recording: once you find the texture you want let it run in the background, that will save you a lot of overdubbing later. Or you can just make lots of weird noise each afternoon.Either way, this is a magnificent and highly collectible piece, one that right now is not available new, so Mint is surely too good to miss. And btw, Mint extends to the box, manual and cutesy lapel badge.
