The Fuzz Bender is powered by a combination of silicon and germanium transistors. I'm the second owner of this particular Fuzz Bender, which is in great shape. Like the first owner, whom I spoke to at length before buying this pedal, I've played it only enough to compare it to my other fuzz pedals. I really love it, but as much as I love it, it's not the right fuzz for me.
