Description

Another vintage gem from my late '80s / early '90s Oxford Scene pedal board. This is an all original 1989 Boss Octave. It is from the first year that production was moved from Japan to Taiwan. So has the black label and more importantly the more desirable original BA634 chip. Also, like the original earlier, Japanese made models it is designed to work, and sounds at its best with the Boss ACA adaptor - this was I believe an unregulated power supply rated up to 12v. The pedal will run of a standard 9v (PSA Style), but it does sound different and really not how it was designed or intended to. 12v gives less crackle and more headroom. The pedal does show signs of some cosmetic wear, but overall it is in good to very good condition, particularly given that is 35 years old. The photos accurately reflect the pedals condition. A few scuffs here and there, but still has a good sparkle and the circuit board is pristine.I have owned this from new and it was a regular resident on my board until it and much of my rig was retired after Sound City in Oxford in '96. Since then, very little use in home/studios only. Sounds amazing still (particularly with the original power supply) and like all Boss pedals built to be built/tour proof. It has recently been checked and pots cleaned by local electronics legend. This is a vintage pedal, it may have its quirks, but played against its modern 'polite' versions (OC-3) it shines. Start from: Oct2 Full Left; Oct1 Full Right; Effect Level Left. Tweak. Enjoy!
