Description

This is a delay pedal made by Boss. It's in good working order. Cosmetically it's good. The pedal has been well cared for and is largely undamaged. Both of the switches have a ring of damage around them from caps I had on them. I guess these smaller than usual switches caused a problem. I'll include the caps with the sale, which hide the damage.Rash Opinion: This pedal is a workhorse and it will supply high-quality delays in spades. The form factor is pedalboard-friendly and offers a lot of I/O. In addition to the full stereo signal path you can get expression/control and MIDI ports, making this an insanely good delay in terms of real-time tweakability. (however tweaking the time knob on the front will not get you classic time-shifting freakout sounds like every delay ever needs to have. Devastating.) The delays themselves are super clean with a good number of adjustment parameters available. Stereo is well-implemented and really elevates some of the presets. In my opinion stereo effects have a bigger impact on the audience than we give credit to. KInd of a subconscious wow factor. I'm a huge fan of Roland. But that won't stop me from saying that this pedal just doesn't jive with me. When I put on a random delay I always feel it needs tweaking. While this does hands-down perfect digital delay and related ping-ponging and other variations, I'm not crazy about the other flavors of delay it has on the plate. They don't sound as full-bodied as the vintage delays they emulate. Other delay pedals do a better job at sounding natural and lively. On the other hand the clarity and polish of Boss' legendary DSP makes it very legible in a mix. For instance the modulation on the pedal is not my favorite when I sit there and critically listen at home, but on stage I think it makes itself known in a good way. Boss really knows what they're doing. But they're arguably boring. When I was a kid we would categorically pass on all Boss pedals because they didn't have the je ne sais quoi of other companies. But we were fools, Boss pedals are rock solid and are used by professionals who get shit done for a living. My Line 6 Echo Park has been on my pedal board forever and will always be there. All settings just sound right. Turn on a setting and it's great. I don't know why the DD-200 isn't like that but I spent enough time with it to accept that's how I feel about it. Which sucks because this pedal has everything I want. I have to mention that there is one setting on there that sounds so weird and unpleasing to me. I can't remember which one but to me it sounds like 500 cockroaches crawling up your wall simultaneously behind you. It's kind of a clackity and unnerving sound akin to rubbing your finger up and down the teeth of a comb. Which setting is that?
