Black Arts Toneworks - Black Sheep Fuzz PedalBlack SheepIn all of it’s throwback glory, the Black Sheep. Dirty, mean spirited and a blast to hang around with. You can’t help but feeling a bit dirty when you plug in. This pedal operates on a Standard 9VDC power supply. No battery connection.The graphic tells a lot about the 1960/70s style classic stinging fuzz. It is based on the 1974 Roland Bee Baa, but with BAT magic breathed into it, simplifying the circuitry. The original unit is a dual fuzz unit and so BAT has made this more dynamic and responsive. The original unit was criticised by some for being brittle which BAT has now fixed with the implementation of a variable input selector, the same as in the Black Forest.More modern transistors, and some component tweaks, tame some inherent harshness of the fuzz effect. Firstly raspiness and, secondly, brittleness are the two main characteristics of the Bee Baa that Black Arts fixed by removing the polarity from the original unit and turning it into a fuzz that everyone can enjoy.What’s it like?The Blacksheep sound is quite distinctive in that the fuzz is thick and heavy. With a Big Muff-style wall of sound, this pedal is great for heavy doom-laden riffing. It has been described as great controlled aggression. Bass frequencies are well handled and the Black Sheep is, therefore, suitable for bass guitar.ControlsVolume Sets output volume level.ToneControls the amount of treble. At 7 o’clock the sound is extremely dark, it gets brighter towards 5 o’clock.DepthFour-position switch for controlling the depth. At the down position, you will have the most bass at the upmost position you will get the tightest sound. With the cooperation of Tone and Depth controls, you will get loads of great sounds out of this pedal.GainSets gain level, sounds best at 5 o’clock.True bypassPower requirements: 2.1mm 9V DC centre negative power supply.
