Description

An original Little Big Muff from the 1970s or possibly early 80s, I'd need to look inside to be sure. This is the same circuit as the V4/V5 Op-Amp Big Muff (made famous by the Smashing Pumpkins) just without the tone stack. And without the inflated price tag!The Tone switch alternates between a dark, bass-heavy sound and a much brighter tone. Full disclosure - the settings are quite a bit darker and brighter than I would typically use! However I've found both settings become much more usable with the volume knob past about 12/1 o'clock. The quality and characteristic of the fuzz is excellent, and if paired with the right amp and/or other pedals this vintage Big Muff could be just what you've been looking for. I've also read that the circuit board layout makes mod-ing this pedal quite simple, so those stock tone settings can be adjusted.I should also let you know that the bypass signal is... well, questionable! I detected a hint of fuzz still coming through and some undesirable colouration (i.e. "tone suck"). If your primary reason for owning this little fella is as part of vintage pedal collection, with sporadic home/studio use, then this shouldn't concern you. Players wanting to use this live would be advised to either get it modded for true bypass or use a looper. Such are the perils of vintage gear! I've owned a V2 Small Stone from 1978 and a V3 from 1981, and experienced the same "tone suck" issues.Cosmetically, the pedal is in really good condition for its age with surprisingly little rust. It has all four rubber feed underneath with no sign of velcro residue. Unfortunately I don't have the box but I will throw in an adapter lead so you can power the pedal with a regular Boss-style barrel plug. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.
