Drunk Beaver Trainer TS-100

Traynor TS-100 preamp in a box

Drunk Beaver Trainer is Traynor™️ TS-100 (solid-state amp) preamp section in a pedal format. I've used an exact schematic of the original amp with a very cool distortion texture. The preamp runs at +-15V using a standard 9V power supply (don't try to feed the pedal with a power supply higher than 9V; this will damage electronics). The higher voltage gives you more dynamics and headroom (~30V amplitude, for example, Klon has ~27V). Preamp could be used in front of another amp or directly into the power amp section (for example, FX loop return input).

AionFX did a great job describing what makes TS series amp circuits unique:

"The topology is fairly basic at the beginning of the circuit, but after the tone stack it gets interesting. The signal is split into 3 bands (low, medium and high), and each band is run into a pair of PNP transistors that distorts the bands separately before combining them back together. They named this the “Tri-Comp Network”—in this case using the term “compression” to refer to distortion and clipping, as opposed to clean compression as it’s normally thought of today.

Traynor’s lead engineer Eric Von Valtier invented the Tri-Comp Network as a method of rounding out the harsh square waves normally associated with bass distortion (actually more like fuzz). The result was, as they called it, “a round-shouldered, three-tiered pyramid” waveform that resembled a sine wave, but with a jagged sort of clipping that actually occurred within the waveform rather than just cutting off the peak as with most other types of clipping."

Controls :
- Gain - the level of drive.
- Bass - controls the bass frequency response.
- Mid - active mid frequencies filter.
- Treble - controls the treble frequency response.
- Master - effect output level.
- LED brightness trimmer - placed on the PCB trimmer allows you to adjust the status LED brightness.

Power Supply: 9V DC adapter (Boss-style negative center) not included. No batteries. They are bad for the environment 🌲.

Don't try to power the pedal with voltages higher than 9V - this will damage electronics. The pedal uses a chip to run the circuit on +-15V.

Current draw: 50 mA
