Note that this rack is archived ; I no longer have the rack and the componenets have moved to SoundDesigner
Wow, what a thoughtful reply! I was just making notes to self for future idea.
I got this case as I wanted the spectraphon and did not have any room for this giant in my two cases. Once I have a house, I'll allow myself to buy a large eurorack case and have my "studio" somehwere other than the hall. I decided I really wanted the Subcon Model 52 Vampire . Having recently got a Keystep Pro I realized....that's four voices of polyphony, this could be a tiny mini-system! It was never originally intended that way; it was more just a overflow case that sits near the rest of my eurorack and semi-modular. I already have the Orion phaser too as I couldn't resist a small eurorack phaser and my pedal phaser broke :(
So then I need a quick + dirty way of converting gates to something with a little more shape that can also mix down to stereo.
I've added rearranged this how I hopefully can fill this out after next year's tax season. What do you think? I'm really hoping cloaks + veils + the keystep gates can be "close enough" to an envelope for the vampire + spectraphon voices. In any case, I think it will be fun to play with and will mostly just stay at home wired to my other racks which have a bit more utility modules in them (though one can never have enough maths...sheesh!)
...this is also why I don't buy a bigger case right now....if I get it, I'll just dream of all those modules I don't have that I always meant to get!
I'd almost definitely want a quad cascading vca... veils or a clone is a good choice...
and probably a delay and a reverb...
don't think I'd want the nifty bundle pedals though... they don't have good reputations & are hard to resell...
tbh with the spectraphon - I'd want a bigger case... not enough room for support modules in a nifty case...
take a look at my signature - think it over for a while... then think about the modules you want and need to support it and then pick a case to house them, preferably leaving some space to expand (20% or so at least)
-- JimHowell1970
And the quickstart guide says 400mA, not 350.
interesting! does this work nicely with mono sources too?
-- Musicaespressiva2Yes, the left input normals to the right input if the right is unpatched,

Great. So when is going to be available? Panel is metal or pcb?
...Maybe I want the Nautilus delay with MI Veils or equivalent.

Filterbanks by nature are fixed. You are probably looking for band-pass filters.
Addac 603 Triple Bandpass x 2 will give you six with glorious overdrive/ saturation if you want it.

nice! I have the old Clock O Pawn and it is great in how simple it works.
hexmix seems like overkill...
only 1 very large sound source?
only 1 very large effect?
possibly too much modulation...
not enough utilities besides the huge mixer...
rosie is discontinued (I think) & do you really need an output module? maybe not
black maths is kinda unobtanium unless you buy a shared system...
I'd suggest taking a look at my signature and spending some time thinking about it and how it relates bith to your rack and mission statement...

I'm not going to have that much of a go at the b-company modules - it's a matter of (your) conscience and ethics if you buy them or not - but supporting small manufacturers (ie everyone but the b-company) - who are more likely to inovate - is definitely a better way to go imo & I'd replace all of those if it was me...
other modules that could be removed:
scales... midi to cv and pitch cv from Ableton etc should be quantized and Pams can be used as a quantizer (& random pitch source) amongst other things... so why scales?????
link... can you not just use 1/8" -> 1/4" cables???
magneto - it's very large in such a small system - there are many other delays out there...
btw the befaco instrument interface is great!
do you really need so many inputs???? not enough mixing capability to take advantage of them in such a small rack with so little processing???
which leads to not enough utilities to support the modules... (including mixing)

Hi there!
I want to use Mantis from TipTop to build my first rack. My idea is getting some kind of sound closer to Andy Stott's music, but open to other styles too (ambient, dub, electro). So my approach is this. Suggestions are welcome. And sorry if I missed any important module or feature totally required. Thank you!
Hello,
I've been looking for a non-fixed filterbank or VCO module that could be CV-pitch controlled, with a polyphony of over 6 voices. What are the options there?
Thanks,
A.
Yeah I watched that video and it is still way too much menu diving for my taste. I love my WMD drum modules and simpler interface to deal with. I have enough menu diving to deal with on modular sequencers. Simplicity makes me happier.
imo thats not a lot of diving tbh, not comparable to elektron at least. watch the synthdad video, i really think theyve found the easiest possible way to implement all this (and thats also the reason why certain features are missing, it would be too much indeed!). having 8 voices without menudiving basically is a full rack, well almost. of course thats cool in a studio, i wouldnt say no either ;))
looks nice but way too much menu diving and button combos for my taste. I went modular for simpler knob and switch per function versus menu diving found in synths like Elektron boxes.
Hi. I am building a rack for external synths recording with PC. But I also want use it for creative music making with only an extra ipad and Blackbox while on the road. I already have several modules and some still on my wish list.
Left side: mainly ins and outs
Befaco in = from BlackBox - 6 output > to ES-9 for live Jam. Or from different external Synths to Ableton.
Joranalogue in = external synth recording to Blackbox or to ES-9 for AUM or Ableton
ES-9 : AUM for live jam (all IOs mixed and Fabfilter plugins on the AUM channels) or Ableton for recoding
Midi on to ES-9 to CV control external synths
Still a few unused CV outs to send CV signals from Ableton or AUM.
Right = creative section
Any suggestions to further improve the creative section?
Any suggestion about the layout (position of the modules) to reduce patch cable lengths?
Can I free up more rack space? Which modules to remove and which ones to add instead?

-- bopodoq
I'm pretty sure nobody wants to do away with intellectual property... but false, unproven (in a court of law) accusations, especially those so boldly made from behind a screen and keyboard, should be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law.
I updated the image on https://www.modulargrid.net/e/steady-state-fate-metalloid-percussion-entity, by the way (to better match the other SSF percussion modules). Please feel free to delete the duplicate panel image there if someone is able.
This preview https://cdn.modulargrid.net/img/racks/modulargrid_2418663.jpg is still using the old panel image, even after I forced ModularGrid to regenerate it by rearranging the rack while it was definitely using the new HEAD image.
I'm just starting this thread to raise awareness that something is "funky" about image caching on ModularGrid.
Mostly this affects rack preview images. When a rack is updated, on first load (when generation of a new preview image gets triggered), the correct image is loaded. On subsequent loads, a stale image usually gets loaded from the browser cache until that old image eventually ages out (or the cache is manually cleared). This behavior is mostly harmless.
I ran into trouble when trying to upload an improved image for a module just now, though. After uploading the new image, it appeared as though nothing had happened, so I tried again. Again, nothing seemed to happen, except the second time around I noticed the previous image I had uploaded was now listed in the "Panel Versions" sidebar. Realizing this was probably the same caching problem, I loaded the module page in another browser, and the main panel image showed the updated image as expected.
This isn't great, since it means I uploaded a duplicate module image. (It looks like this happens somewhat frequently, since I see duplicate module images more often than I'd expect if this were purely accidental.)
The problem seems to be that ModularGrid always uses the same URL for these images, even after they're updated, and allows them to be cached. Strangely, this also seems to affect preview generation somehow, since rack previews which include the module I mentioned above are continuing to use the old HEAD image for the moment, even as they're regenerated. (I confirmed the rack does actually use the new panel image in another browser, but the preview still does not.)
None of this is that big a deal, but it would be great if this were fixed at some point (and perhaps some method was added to remove duplicate panel images).
If you do away with the concept of intellectual property, you remove the incentive to innovate. Quite simple.

from the web:
PayPal notes that the company puts payments on hold to help ensure that the platform is safe and secure for both buyers and sellers.
Although the money belongs to you, PayPal will temporarily keep you from accessing it to make sure there's enough money in your account to resolve issues like chargebacks or disputes.
Funds are released when the buyer confirms that they received the item they ordered in the condition that was advertised.
Some specific reasons why your payment might be on hold include:
Your PayPal account has been inactive. The payment you received is unusual for your typical selling pattern. PayPal found an unusual change in selling price for a particular transaction. You're selling an item that customers may be dissatisfied with. You've only recently started selling items outside of eBay.
Why is my payment on hold?
There are a number of reasons for why funds could be placed on hold, including:
You're new to selling. New sellers need to build up their buyer-seller credibility and history. Once you've established a successful transaction record, your status can change. You haven't sold anything in a long time. Similar to being a first-time seller, if you haven't sold an item in awhile, you'll need to rebuild your credibility. Customers filed formal complaints for a refund, dispute, or chargeback. If you've been flagged by multiple customers for various issues, PayPal may delay the availability of your funds. According to PayPal, the best way to remedy this is to work directly with buyers to ensure that issues are resolved as quickly as possible. To prevent complaints, be upfront about shipping costs, item condition, and return policy. You can also set up a customer service message to let customers know if an extreme incident โ like a natural disaster in your area โ is preventing you from shipping on time. You have a suspicious selling pattern. PayPal will flag an account that has unusual activity, including a higher than normal selling pattern or a distinct change in the type of items sold. You're selling riskier items. Examples of these kinds of items include tickets, gift cards, consumer electronics, computers, and travel packages โ anything that is more expensive or event-related could be flagged
How long does PayPal hold your funds?
As long as there aren't any issues with your transaction or account (like an undelivered package or a customer filing a dispute), PayPal will release your funds within 21 days.
so unless you're using paypal as seller who sell a lot of stuff i guess you always have to wait at least untile the package is delivered.
going back on topic, half of refund is the minimum he could offer and i repeat he offered half refund only after threats of coming kicking his ass because previously he just was insisting on "it's not my resposability i can't refund" way of thinking... when LaPoste french postal service answered me that "Only the sender can file a claim with our service, since he alone is entitled to compensation in the event of loss, damage, spoliation, unjustified return or incorrect delivery of the shipment."
according to the (french)law i should have done what to get some money back? that's no sense to involve the law when it would cost more time and money than the actual result. that's why i insisted on kicking his ass. and it worked.
have a nice christmas whiny french, i considered it close.
Although their claims obviously haven't been verified in a court of law, I'd imagine most of these "intellectual property" snobs have downloaded music or samples and have not paid the artist who made them, but apparently that's different. Typical hypocrites. If they want to overpay for items to seem "cool", bless their hearts. I'll keep the extra money in MY pocket where it belongs :)
Hi,
I never confirmed anything when I used paypal. I think that the protection allows you to claim the money if something wasn't well, but I think that the seller receives the money immediately in his Paypal account.
At least I have always received it immediately, before the package arrived. I don't know if you can withdraw it immediately or you have to wait a period of time in case there is a claim from the buyer.
sometimes it does.
I donยดt really know whhen this applies, but in some cases the buyer needs to validate the transaction when reveiving the item before the sellers gets the money.
No advice, just a quick mention: Here is the 1HP minimalist module that matches the borders, which you can use to create the appearance of two cases side-by-side. It's what I use as a separator between my cases. https://www.modulargrid.net/e/other-unknown-1hp-spacer-for-minimalist-rack

death threats???
kicking your ass is not a death threat, no need to kill anybody
-- lazarusgordon
Listen, kid, threats are threats and under French law, can land you in jail regardless of whether it's a death threat or another type of threat involving an illegal activity. This is article 222-17:
The threat of committing a crime or misdemeanor against persons whose attempt is punishable is punishable by six months' imprisonment and a fine of 7,500 euros when it is either repeated or materialized in writing, an image or any other object.
The penalty is increased to three years' imprisonment and a fine of 45,000 euros if it involves a death threat.
You're incredibly lucky RandomProgression is a VERY nice guy, I would have definitely sued your entitled person, and definitely would not have reimbursed a single euro after receiving threats like the above...
--- Voltage control all the things ---
Sadly my brand new keystep pro broke this weekend and messed with my plans... But thats okay I took time to get familuar with my modules. And I came up with this. Its a bit chaotic still but but I managed to tame it a bit. Atleast to my liking...
As always. I am open to feedback. We grow and learn with feedback.
I do stuff and things and whatnot...
I'm planning on buiding a eurorack to connect to a keyboard for dugeon synth and dark ambient style music. Capable of soft, vintage and retro sound scapes. I'd like to keep everything minimal. Not too many modules with a small case build (65hp). Modules im looking for would be an fm oscillator, a filter, envelope controls (adsr), some vintage or lofi effects. And some delay reverb modules at the end.
-- Meenthgrea
with only 65hp you have run out of space before you fulfill your list of wanted modules - at least in any way that takes basic ergonomics, ie playability, into account... it is not unusual for newbies to
this does not include any space for the modules that you have left out that are needed to support the modules you think you want - specifically modulation and utilities... or for any expansion at a later date
further note - an fm oscillator is often paired with another vco in order to facilitate audio rate fm (
NB - the tex-mix master section requires at least 1 of the 4 * (stereo/mono) channel modules to work
I strongly suggest starting with a substantially larger case - tiptop mantis is an excellent starter case & still portable (unless you are a small child) - or significantly rethinking what will go in the case - for example a lot of the effects could be handled by effects pedals (don't forget some pedal interfaces for matching volume/impedence)
take a look at my signature & spend a significant amount of time considering the contents and how they would appky to any modular synth you might want to construct & then revisit the 'dream rack' applying these thoughts...
I'd also strongly recommend starting with a minimum viable synth - a sound source, a sound modifier, a modulation source, a way to play and a way to listen... plus an attenuverter/offset module (happy nerding 3 * mia for example) and a quad cascading vca - some of these functions may be overlap on modules - a Pams can do modulation & envelopes and quantized stepped random for instance & a quad cascading vca can also be used as a mono output
hint: start with the modules that are both wanted and needed and NOT the case
hope this helps...

Utility modules are the dull polish that makes the shiny modules actually shine!!!
sound sources < sound modifiers < modulation sources < utilities
can't agree more with what @HGSynth is saying above...
I'm not convinced more modulation is needed, in fact I'd probably go with less - and add more utilities to leverage the modulation that's there to produce more (& more interesting) modulation...
so more mixers (& usually I'd say more vcas - but I think you have more than enough) especially and End Of Chain Mixer (or more sub mixers) & at least 1 matrix mixer (predominantly for modulation purposes) would be useful...
more things like switches, attenuverters, clock dividers etc & even some mults... & yes I know pams can do a lot of clock division - but an external one is also useful... for example send an audio signal into a clock divider - /2 = -1ve, /4 = -2ve squarewave outputs (bassline)
also some control modules would be a good idea - so you can make big overall changes easily - but at that point an extra case might be useful - so you can have one vertical and one horizontal... this would also make room for a decent sequencer (I like the erica black) & EOC mixer...
one of those analogies @HGSynth mentioned above is my signature... take a look at it and spend some time thinking about it and how it applies to your rack... especially the formula!
hope this helps...

Utility modules are the dull polish that makes the shiny modules actually shine!!!

How big is your case? How much room do you have to play with? Can't tell from your link if you have an extra row available or not.
I wanted to get some thoughts as I'm putting some final touches on the rack I'm going to build in the near future. I've got about 35% of the modules so far and things are working just how I want. I was hoping to see if anyone could point out some glaring gaps.
Bolded part is important here. If your rack is already doing what you want, then you're probably heading the right way. I think a lot of us (myself included) let our GAS lead the way, but if your rack is already contenting you, you're in good shape. That being said...
The 2 gaps I'm aware of are mixing and mod/utilities. I have enough for barebones mixing but it would be nice to make some more room. I have a decent amount of modulation sources and mixers but no logic, sequencers, etc, which I am somewhat ok with for now, but still open to suggestions.
Agreed that you've identified where you're lacking. A number of great analogies are floating around these forums about what utilties represent in a rack (I've been schooled more than once myself, if you want to go back through my posts). Without repeating them, it suffices to say that the utilities are what really make the disparate pieces of a system come together and allows interactions, modulations, and manipulations that are simply not possible otherwise.
The hard part with utilties is that the functions are often seemingly abstract and esoteric until you have experience with them. A precision adder makes sense by definition, but maybe doesn't seem so useful or life changing. After having one in my rack though, it's become indespensable. Same for my switches, clock modulator, sample/track and holds, matrix mixer, and mutes. All have seriously altered how I use my instrument in ways I would not have predicted. I don't think I could go back to a rack without them without being keenly aware of their absence. And that goes doubly for my vcas and attenuators, of which I am the poster child for never having enough when needed.
You actually have a good start on utilities, but you should really be relying much more heavily on them to help your cool sound manglers and modulators work to their fullest potentials. Thankfully, utility modules are usually cheaper, smaller, and more available than the fancy audio manipulators. Happy to provide specific module suggestions if you have specific needs or questions, but hesitant to just suggest you buy more things, particularly if you're satisfied already.
Hopefully one of the more power users can come along and provide more fulsome feedback, as I'm not as personally familiar with some of your modules as I'd like to be. However, I think the general point stands.
Good luck, and have fun.
Also,
Don't forget that this guy told me that :
"Hi!
I would buy i think

With simple shipment with tracking number?"
So, i think it's quite clear. It's easy to open a conversation and blame people without expose the whole thing, and in this case, the basic one. Period.
I didn't do any mistake, he did. And i think i'm too gentle to refund him the half. But i did.
So, peacefull people on MG, be careful of this mad guy
You are ridiculously crazy.
You have to be angry about the postal service, not me.
If you wanted to have your full money back, you sould use paypal protection service. You didn't, so i propose you a half refund as you pay as F&F (50&50). Are you selfishly crazy too ? We both lost something, so let's split and don't talk to me again please.
Hope this situation will enlighten people and show that, on the one hand, you have to use the paypal protection service (as indicated by modulargrid) and, on the other hand, that some people here can be completely crazy and toxic.
For information, i refund this guy to the half.

death threats???
the address is the one given by the tracking number...kicking your ass is not a death threat, no need to kill anybody, just get my money back, kiddo. no need to involve anyone else. don't make a drama out of your bullshits
you offered half refund just now (1 month later this situation started) after i sent the picture of you address with "death threat" you're talking about, anyway... so it seems to work... a bit more push and maybe you will refund all the money...
yes, it's just a module, it's just 300 euros (330 to be precise but i offered to refund 300).. so why don't you send me back those fucking money and we end it.
Hello there,
I am the salesman this gentleman is talking about.
Yes, no need to hide because I'm not trying to hide anything.
I completely understand the situation and agree that this situation sucks!
I offered to reimburse him for half the price of the module as a fair compromise.
But it seems important to me to clarify how things have turned out since this gentleman asked for your opinions.
In fact, I received death threats from this man and he even sent me a photo of the front of my wife's mother's house where I lived before as a threat. Here are the messages:
Him "You have no idea what are you talking about and you are trying to find excuses .Read on the forum people's comments.
Have a nice watch on your back, mr hundred of transactions"
Me "Yes i exactly know what iโm trying to explain to you. You are referring to a forum when you use Paypal as a platform of paiement. But now i can see what you really are and you clearly threat me.I copy that !Thank you"
Him "im referring to the law and to common sense, which said the seller is responsible for getting the package to the buyer.
You're just using the fact that i did a favor to you by using a non protected payment to let you have immedietly the money.
Threating you? what the fuck im supposed to do? how old are you? spoiled kid. it's better for you if the package arrives soon or later because i have your address and i have photos of you from facebook. So i know where to strike my revenge. And i am a freelance so i can take breaks from my job whenever i want.pray for your shitty postal service to make it."
Me "Okay, look, I'm starting to get tired of all these threats.
I told you that I was doing everything possible to contact the postal service and for the moment I still have no response (I contact them once a week)
You make me look like a thief and you lose all your wits reading your threatening words.
So from now on, I'm going to ask you to stop threatening me and my family. When I have the slightest return from my postal service and if I have the slightest refund, I will send it to you immediately of course.
thank you for your patience"
Him "package is clearly lost.send back money to me"
==> He also sent to me a picture of the front of my wife's mother's house at this moment
Me "Look, I'm tired of all this and I'm starting to get tired of you coming after me with your threats.
How dare you do this and intimidate me with photos?
Do you realize what you're doing? Do you want me to call the police?
You should take it to the post office instead!
I remind you that you did not protect your payment so there is nothing I can do about it!
You're wasting my time and I'm still waiting for a return from the post office which keeps me waiting and I assure you it annoys me too.
The only thing I could do is refund you half! That's all I can do. But honestly you should be ashamed of yourself for threatening people like you do.
I was fooled once by not protecting a purchase and I never acted like that, it's part of life and I took it as a lesson. Since then I have protected all my purchases. You should do the same thing.
Now I'd like you to stop contacting me, and I'll pay you half back when I get my paycheck. THANKS"
Him "everything is upsidedown for you.
paypal protection is used to avoid having to be scammed by people like you who doesnt refund non-delivered items. It doesn't mean you can avoid to refund just because the sale was not protected.
It was a favour i did for you to pay as friend so you can immediately get the money. Why the fuck shouldn't i do the protection if is just 4% more? it's just a favour people do for the seller
The French law and in general european law say the seller is responsable for the package to be delivered. I can do nothing with post office. I called two times and wrote messages. There is no way to do anything for the receiver. Only the sender can do something.
You're wasting my money and my time for something i didn't even get and didn't even got over your local post office....
one of their last response was this:
"Only the sender can file a claim with our service, since he alone is entitled to compensation in the event of loss, damage, spoliation, unjustified return or incorrect delivery of the shipment."
You don't fucking understand it's on you.
You should pay back at least 300 euros (30 i can forget). You can pay 150 once and 150 later if you dont have the money."
The limits have been exceeded and I think one thing should be kept in mind: we are talking about eurorack modules in a community with the possibility of buying/exchanging. Damn it's not a big deal ! I know it's sucks but i tried to find a fair solution which is a half refund.
But what the fuck is going on where people are starting to threat people like this ? Seriously ?
I'm not okay to accept this so it's important to notice how things are in the all context.
I'm a fair guy and deeply lover of this community, but yeah, shit happens and that's part of the "game". But, come on, how dare people threat people like this guy do ???
I wanted to get some thoughts as I'm putting some final touches on the rack I'm going to build in the near future. I've got about 35% of the modules so far and things are working just how I want. I was hoping to see if anyone could point out some glaring gaps.
Everything is sequenced by a Digitakt (which also handles basic drum and sample duties), via midi (assimil8or + locotus) and a CVOCD for the melodic parts. The assimil8or is for resampling and mangling the analog stuff, glitches, chords, vocals, and some drums. Endless Processor is pretty much always for making pads. The rest of the top 2 rows are for a 1-2 melodic/lead voices.
I recognize that I'm being stubborn with effect/processor modules and would obviously ideally like to have all, but I guess curious if anyone has any thoughts on any of it.
Thanks!
I'm enjoying this little kit build from ST, kit came from Pusherman, quick little build even if I managed to solder a few pins of the power header on the wrong side of the PCB to start with. Followed by spending too long fixing my mistake!!
At first its a bit of a weird one but with a bit of playing around things get more interesting, would work a treat pushing the Pitch through a Quantizer if you want more regular scales.
Then it struck me, I could use the ISI Wren to control the ADDAC VC T-Networks and tweak the pitch of the percussion hits, this is a little match made in heaven for extra percussion lines that will vary and change ofer time without the need for tweaking.
Lots of fun if you like his sort of thing. Rather like the DNiPro DOT controlling the T-Networks with 3 different Euclidean pattern lengths for polymetric patterns but with the added fun of Pitch data!
Enjoy your spare HP, don't rush to fill every last space, this is not like filling sticker books. Resist the urge to 'complete' your rack, its never complete so just relax.
