The DI-1256 preamplifier is a highly versatile 500 Series direct instrument (DI) preamplifier module, the newest member of our 500 Legends series. It is not a microphone preamplifier with a guitar input jack. Instead, the DI-1256 provides a high impedance (470k ohms) FET input buffer stage designed for use with magnetic or active instrument pickups.
The input gain and output level controls provide familiar action, but we added extra EQ and signal shaping features you’d expect to find in a professional high quality DI unit. The optional line-in mode allows using the module like a standard outboard signal processor with HPF, saturation, EQ and limiter.
The fully balanced line-level output signal can drive a digital audio workstation (DAW) interface directly, and/or a second isolated split output signal can be routed to an external bass/guitar amplifier rig. Likewise, the line output could feed a mixer, power ampliifer or other balanced line-level device.
The module’s signal path includes a unique warmth saturator, a high-pass filter, two bands of high quality parametric EQ and a fast peak limiter to reduce clipping. These features make the DI-1256 particularly well suited for professional recording, mixing, live sound, broadcast, or any application where a high-quality direct instrument interface is required.
