Description

up for sale here is a DIYRE CP5 500 series preamp module w/ JFT Class-A Transistor Colour Module.here's what DIYRE writes:The CP5 is the first microphone preamp to feature Colour. On its own, the CP5 is a reference-quality, 500-series mic preamp with copious amounts of clean gain. With Colour, the CP5 is the most tonally versatile preamp in the world.World Class Preamp. The CP5 is a transparent, low-noise preamp that performs as good or better than preamps 5x the price (seriously, check out the SPECS tab above). The preamp's signal path features only best-in-class components, including WIMA capacitors and THAT Corp. ICs. Preamp gain and Colour are adjustable via stepped controls for easy recall and stereo operation.Add Some Colour. Plug any Colour module into the CP5 to add some character to your preamp. Dial in the exact amount of Colour you want with the stepped Colour control. Switch between tone and transparency with the Colour bypass switch. The CP5's preamp works with or without a Colour installed.FeaturesFully compatible with the 500-series formatStepped controls (21 positions) for easy recall and stereo operationAnodized black aluminum knobs and front panelPhantom power, polarity, -20dB pad, and Colour switchesMic preamp gain adjustable from +20-66dBUltra-transparent, low-noise preampNo electrolytic capacitors or transformers in the signal pathWIMA film coupling capacitorsBased on the best-in-class THAT Corp. 1512 preamplifier ICElectronically balanced inputs and outputsSingle Colour socketColour control adjusts amount of Colour without changing overall gainJFTThick, musical saturation that shines on any source.Part of the magic of vintage solid-state gear is that, because transistors were expensive, they used as few as possible, so each one had to work harder. And when transistors are pushed to their limits, they begin to distort in beautiful ways. The JFT Colour is designed by this philosophy: choose great-sounding transistors and then make them work very hard. The JFT employs two class-A saturation stages to create a complex, layered character. In the first stage, a NOS JFET generates asymmetrical distortion, clipping the bottom of the waveform but not the top. This type of saturation, which is associated with triode tubes, thickens and warms up the signal while maintaining its integrity. In the second stage, five transistors form a primitive discrete opamp which operates just on the verge of instability. This stage applies a subtle layer of harmonics which give the Colour a “finished” sound.MKII ImprovementsIn 2019 to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Colour Format, we redesigned the first three Colours, the 15IPS, CTX, and JFT, to use only discrete, class-A transistor circuitry. You could think of this as the opposite of an update—we’ve reversed the technology of the Colours back to the late 60’s. The result is an authentic vintage character that’s more nuanced and refined.i have another one up for sale with the CTX colour module.this is a private sale, no returns or refunds. if you have any problems though, please don't hesitate to contact me.
