Description

I am starting to create listings for the individual Cobalt, Allotrope, and Rupert Neve Designs R6 items from my "6-channel Allotrope Sidecar" listing (see below and my other listings if interested). It seemed unnecessary to create all new pictures for each and every item individually so I am just creating the individual listings for each item for the purposes of selling them. Let me know if you have any questions. This particular listing is for one (1x) Wunder Audio Cobalt 500-series mic preamp. This one is #1 of the six Cobalts you see listed in the pictures. They are virtually indistinguishable from each other, so feel free to select one if you would like. Please note that Wunder does not ship their 500-series gear in fancy boxes with "box candy" and all of that stuff. They just came wrapped and taped in thick pick foam wrap in a box. I only bring this up because I am a stickler for things being "mint" and in their original packaging since I am more of a hobbyist nowadays and keep my stuff in top shape. I will remove your Cobalt of choice from the rack, wrap it very well individually, and then place with more bubble wrap in a larger box. It will arguably be packed better than original. Check my feedback as I am very particular about shipping. ============================="ALLOTROPE SIDECAR" listing below=============================I assembled this "sidecar" with the goal of effectively creating my own little replica of the original John Paul Jones custom console that inspired the original Mike Castoro creations. Now to be clear this is more of a "spiritual" replica than a 1:1 replica, but here is what I mean: The Cobalt and Allotrope 500-series units featured here (12 units total) are effectively the mic pre and eq sections of the Wunder Audio PEQ2R. And most folks seem to be aligned that if you put these two together you are effectively getting the exact same thing as the PEQ2R, just without the $3,000 price tag (by the time you add the required power supply). The PEQ2R was the evolution of the original Wunder Audio PEQ1. If you are interested and do some Google searching you will find some of the history around the PEQ1 being the labor of Mike Castoro recreating a mic pre and EQ section from an old John Paul Jones console that Mike got his hands on in the 90s. He spent four years designing dozens of modifications to more-or-less replicate these modules with the PEQ1. I have seen these (the PEQs) described as a "Trident-meets-Helios"-type sound and I think that's an interesting take on them, as they are not exactly like any one thing. I loved it so much I wanted a whole "sidecar" of them, so I purchased two brand new Rupert Neve Designs R6s from Sweetwater (complete with $160 of rack ears) to house them all. I started collecting them individually until I was only 3 Cobalts short, and then I ordered those brand new off of Vintage King. Only listing as "Very Good" due to a few white dots on a few of the Allotrope units (see pics.. no impact on usage). Otherwise I would list as Excellent as they all look and operate as such. Important to note that the knobs and what not on the Allotrope are not high-polished chrome or anything. That is the natural look and feel even when new.Purchasing 6 brand new PEQ2R units (with required two power supplies) would run almost $17k new..... so this was a great way to economically get the same functionality and a cool look. When you take the cost of the R6s into consideration I am basically pricing this at around $700 per module. Wunder 500-series units don't come with fancy boxes or "box candy", they are just well wrapped. I will do the same and make sure they are well wrapped individually and then placed in well padded oversized boxes. I still have original box and extras for both of the R6s that I purchased new and will be included. If anyone is interested in a "mini"-"sidecar" (intentionally being ridiculous with the quotes there :) ), let me know and I'd be happy to split into one R6 with three Cobalts and three Allotropes. Or just the six Cobalts, or just the six Allotropes. Likewise, if you are interested in individual modules I will consider selling separately. However, I wanted to put this entire listing out there in case someone was interested in a turnkey solution. Let me know if you have any questions. Please note: The Chandler RS660 that makes a guest appearance in some of the photos is NOT included in this listing. re: SHIPPING / INSURANCEIf you would like expedited shipping or additional insurance options, please let me know as this is NOT included in this price. Shipping rates have really escalated lately and since I am not a dealer, I don't get the same rates they do. Please check my shop's shipping policies for further details.re: RETURNSI have noticed in recent years here and on other sites there seems to be an increase of buyers that purchase an item, practically invent some sort of problem or issue, and then hold the seller's feedback ransom in order to get a few bucks back for free.  That is why I am making it perfectly clear in my listings that I do not accept returns. Please ask all questions up front (additional condition details, request more pictures, etc.). However, if you check my feedback both here and on a popular auction site ( jmarsh45 ) you will see that I have a perfect 100% feedback rating of over 1,100 across both platforms over the past 20+ years.  I take my feedback and my gear very seriously even though I am a hobbyist. So please know that if there is a genuine problem, I am sure we can work something out. Just reach out before or after with any questions or issues.
