MONO GAMA - EXCLUSIVE COPPER

500 SERIES MIC PREAMP

The Shadow Hill Industries Mono GAMA is a single-channel API 500 Series version of the Golden Age Microphone Amp - with all the capabilities, features, and quality of the original! The Mono GAMA is centered around a custom discrete op-amp. This no-compromise design exudes hugeness, fidelity, punchiness and depth, across the full frequency range, without becoming veiled or choked. The Mono GAMA shines on vocals and, with a line-level input, is just as powerful on instrument signals!

The copper version is a limted, bespoke version of the standard Mono GAMA. The control panel is made of solid copper and is hand-engraved. With the addition of Shadow HIlls' innovative Stack technology, to the transformer switching matrix, you can be assured that the M.G.C. is the most advanced system for amplifying microphones and unbalanced line signals, for audio transmission. The unique technology contained within the Mono GAMA Copper ensures that even under the most inhospitable conditions, unamplified signals can be brought into compliance by Shadow Hills' ardent, battle proven technology.

"As victims of its bold styling and glowing reviews, we purchased a Mono GAMA for Kore Studios a year ago. It is one of those pieces that has an instant "wow" factor. Visiting engineers always seem to greet it with the sentence 'Oh yeah, these are supposed to be awesome!!' This unit has yet to disappoint. Its ability to dial up three such distinctive sounds with the satisfying click of its chunky dial makes this pre very popular. Our personal favorite is the 'steel' setting with an SM57 on electric guitar cabs but the GAMA will earn its respect on just about anything."

  • George Apsion, Kore Studios, London

The core of the Mono GAMA is Shadow Hills' Discrete Operational Amplifier. If features outstanding clarity and an ultra-fast transient response. The op-amp contributes to Mono GAMA's incredible transparency.

The preamplifier input is transformer-balanced utilizing an original Jensen input transformer. During development, Shadow Hills couldn't decide which vintage output transformer they preferred best, so they had all of their favorites perfectly recreated, and included them all! You can change the output transformer by cranking the knob, thus changing the tonal capabilities to compliment to whatever material you are recording. This allows you to audition different settings to find the perfect match for microphone or direct input without patching and un-patching other preamps, and possibly alleviating the need for EQ. Choose between Discrete, Nickel, Steel, or Stack settings. Discrete is the transformerless setting. Nickel gives you flat low end, and a 1 dB boost at 10k. Steel adds a 1 dB boost at 40 Hz with a tight Q. Stack combines the Nickel and Steel transformers for greater saturation, more distortion, and color. Each transformer position is stellar unto itself, but the capability of switching between them is like having four great mic pres in one.

All standard mic pre features are present on the Mono GAMA: phantom power, phase reverse, a twenty dB pad, and direct input. You also have the ability to pad and reverse the phase of the Direct Input. Attenuation control provides 18 dB range on mic signals or 8 dB on the line input.

The build quality of the Mono GAMA is unmatched. It features engraved front panels, a twenty four position Swiss-made attenuator for gain control, custom made knobs, and engraved serial number plates.
